Don't know why these came to mind, but I have read at least two fics with this plot. I would've sworn they were written by Suz and Xie, but I looked through their fic lists and didn't find them. Neither are they in the financial crisis tag, though someone else did look for a similar fic a couple of years ago, but that request wasn't found.

Don't remember much about either fic; they were set around 2007 or so. In one, things are tense and Brian tells Ted and Cynthia they were going avoid laying off any staff if at all possible, but if anyone quit, their position wouldn't be filled. In the other fic, B/J were in NYC, the agency went under, Britin was sold, their NY apt was sold, their retirement accounts were emptied trying to save the agency and staff, all to no avail. Brian notes that nearly everyone they know is in the same boat because they all do things that aren't necessary. People quit buying Justin's paintings, quit hiring Emmett to cater parties, corps pulled back their ads.

ETA: Both fics located. Fall, by Xie, and Reality Bites, by Suz.

I was sure I had read the summary to this story a few days ago but I checked the Brian/Other tag and couldn't find it. Basically, what I remember is that Brian was with someone for a long time and then this someone dies and then somehow he meets Justin and he doesn't want to love him but ends up doing it? It's vague but it was a request I read here so it's what I remember. Thank you so much!

EDIT: found! It's Love's Long Journey by Susan.

I've read several fics in which Brian is a horrid, verbally abusive boss. But Brian must be a good boss to work for. After all, Cynthia burns bridges behind her in order to help Brian get Kinnetik off the ground so she can continue to work for him instead of for Vance. Also, Kinnetik is a success, which would never happen if Brian creates a toxic work place. Yes, he does say, "Would it help if I threatened to fire you?" to a guy in the art department in canon, but he does so in such a teasing manner that the guy laughs. He does criticize Bob and Brad's work, but in the same meeting he praises and encourages new guy. (New guy is Kip, but Brian doesn't know Kip's a sleaze yet.) And yes, he does get bitchy with Cynthia when he's highly stressed, but I have to conclude she puts up with it because his behavior the rest of the time balances it.

So, two part request:
Those of you who know canon backward and forward, what are your favorite Brian-boss moments in canon? Episodes?

More importantly, I'm looking for fics in which Brian is portrayed as a good boss. A bit bitchy at times (this is Brian we're talking about), but overall, someone you would like working for.

ETA:
Fics don't have to be set at Kinnetik; Brian doesn't have to be THE boss. After all, Brian is a partner at VanGard, and even at Ryder, Brian was higher on the totem pole than other some other employees. I just want to see Brian doing his job, interacting with clients or-- better yet-- interacting with employees, and being good or great at his job instead of being a mentally unbalanced two year old.

Update:
A few recs in the comments and (hopefully) more coming in!
