Having become annoyed at bjfic and midnight whispers for different reasons, I'm looking to branch out. Anyone worth reading at slashcity.com? QAF-US only, please.
ETA: well, not exactly what I was asking for, but some interesting comments on alternative archives and places to look for stories.

Date: 2009-05-18 01:32 am (UTC)1) BJFic - even though I've updated a fic recently 3 times, the chapters don't appear in "most recent". The posting of the chapters resulted in an error that says the files aren't ther. I've emailed the keepers of the archive website regarding this with no response. Posted in the BJFIC archive community - no response from maintainers. Someone posted a note saying that there was glitch, but the chapters still update. I can understand a technology glitch, but as a result, I don't know who is updating what - if at all.
2) Midnight-Whispers had two server moves and I'm unwilling to deal with resurrecting and reposting all the fic that I wrote that I previously posted with them. Also, the amount of Mpreg appearing there is disturbing to me. Mpreg in general is disturbing to me. Not my thing - live and let live.
Regardless, since I don't know what is being updated on one, and most of what is being updated on the other is not my thing, I thought I'd look and see what offerings are elsewhere. Most of the other archive sites are devoid of new stories, but I'm enjoying discovering new/different writers/stories. It's fun to see where season 1, 2, and 3 fics written at the time the show was running took things.

Date: 2009-05-18 03:22 pm (UTC)I've actually found new things to read right here at getithere. Check the memories. You never know when you'll find something you missed along the way!

Date: 2009-05-18 04:32 pm (UTC)I find much of my new reading here (getithere) and often by following one thread that leads me to another then another.
However, I probably wouldn't have bothered with slashcity except I found one story that I liked there, so I wanted to know if there was anything else of possibility there.
I don't find much new at across the pond. Rizabeau and Hephaistion Lo are the only people that I've *found* at ATP -- and what a tasty goldmine they are. But sadly nothing of that caliber or length of exposition.
And I've pretty much exhausted the BNF (big name fan) writers.

Date: 2009-05-18 10:16 pm (UTC)I can provide links if you need. Big Brian O also has an original fic ongoing (Vampire!Brian) that is wonderful.
Have you read "Lost and Found" at the Liberty Diner? It's one of my favorite fics (Brian with a brain tumor). Also "Broken Image" (Brian has a stroke). They've both been around for a long time. Besame_bj has some great fics on her site.
What authors do you consider BNF? That might help me make some more suggestions.

Start with "Swamp Fever". It's Brian/Other, and it's fantastic! Then there's the sequel "Burn", then an original fic called "Gone", and his latest WIP "Indifference", which is vampire!Brian and is amazing!
Lost and Found can be found here: http://www.thelibertydiner.net/LostandFound1.html
I can't remember the name of the author but it is a great story.
Enjoy!

Date: 2009-05-18 10:40 pm (UTC)The same thing happened to me. Also, when I've emailed them with questions, the answers are curt or they take weeks (or even months) to reply. I've stopped posting there, and I rarely check their most recent listing for fics any more. Ugh, I guess I'm still aggravated and needed to vent in your post. Sorry.

Date: 2009-05-18 02:30 am (UTC)However if you are looking for alternate sites where you can find good B/J stories I highly recommend Across the Pond and Moonshadow Tribe
http://qaf-fic.com/atp/
http://www.mags-nificent.com/MSW/QAF.htm
However, warnings for both sites are as follows. 99% of the stories I've come across on Across the Pond are all labeled as incomplete when in fact they actually are finished, so you don't know if they are finished or not going in.
Moonshadow Tribe has a similar problem in that many of the stories are marked as complete and some are not marked at all. Also I believe most stories on this site are complete, however there are one I know of that is still regularly updated, though you have to go to each story individually to find out where it stands as the site is split up by author and there is no recent updates page that I am aware of.
Please don't make these warnings keep you away. Both of these sites have some excellent complete stories. Of course you may already be aware of these sites and just didn't mention them in your post. If that's the case, maybe this post will help someone else checking out the comments on your post!
If you will be new to Moonshadow Tribe let me highly recommend Thyme. (This will mostly only be good for you if you enjoy AU B/J)
Unfortunetly, I know what you mean about MW. There is really only one story there that I LOVE that is being updated, and the author takes such care to make each chapter perfect that it seems she goes at least a week between each post. There seems to be a sad lack of extremely talented authors who are currently posting. Of course one does have to make allowances for RL, which we all know can easily get in the way. Though luckily, we still have LJ.

Date: 2009-05-18 04:35 pm (UTC)I wish that they dated the stories so you know when they were written and updated. I find things that are updated! that are over a year old.
As I posted above, I haven't found a lot that I've read at ATP that caught my fancy, other than Rizabeau and Hephaistion Lo -- but quite frankly, that certainly was enough to make it worth the trip.

Date: 2009-05-23 10:34 pm (UTC)I am totally with you on wishing the Tribe site noted a year on the updates.
I've read a couple of Holly Ilex' fics and, if I'm remembering correctly, she uses a lot of British slang, which turns me right off a fic. There are a few non-American writers I read who aren't as careful as I'd like about that slip, but if you want me to overlook it, you best have a damn compelling plot!
I don't really have any suggestions for you, unfortunately. You're way more open to AUs than I am so I know you've read lots more fic than I have. A new author to LJ in the last several months is
