This post comes about from the recent search for princesskirsty's fics, but it applies to all authors. There's just no way, without direct communication, to know where second-hand (which could really be fifth-hand, for all we know) "No Share" instructions actually come from. Someone could infer that an author deleting her LJ and removing her fics must obviously mean they don't want them shared and so post a "no share" comment with the best of intentions, but that may not be accurate.
For example, Cindy, a long-time fandom author, who posted her fics to the Moonshadow Tribe and participated in various fic challenges on LJ and IJ, decided awhile back to delete her fics from the MST site. She notified the maintainers of MST of her plan to do so within a certain amount of time and to pass the word for folks to save what they wanted as the fics wouldn't be available for too much longer. That information was posted to getithere so we'd know what was going on and have the opportunity to save her fics if we chose. Someone who didn't get that message from Cindy at the time it was written might, in the future, make the assumption that since those fics aren't available anymore, she must not want them shared, which isn't the case, at all.
We have come to the conclusion that we aren't mind readers, so unless one of us is notified via PM or email by an author, or an author makes a post to this comm stating they do not want their fics shared here, it's permissible to share whatever fics you have saved. I'd venture to guess that every fandom author knows about this comm, so there's always the opportunity for them to make their wishes known. At this time, only jans_intentions and niquita_gia have asked that their fics not be shared here and we are happy to honor their requests. This is also mentioned in the Rules.
As always, any "no share" communications posted here apply *only here* at GIH. What you save, hunt for, or share off-comm among yourselves is your business and nobody else's.
