getithereI have a soft spot for AU stories in which Justin meets Brian a little later than canon, when Justin is already standing on his own two feet. I like the way it changes their dynamic if they are more equal and Brian doesn’t have to go through the pseudo-parental phase with Justin. I’ve read quite a few, but I’d love to know of more. Here's a list of the ones I know I've read.
A few personal favorites:
And You’re the One Vanishing, Justin and Brian fall in love in San Francisco, but then Brian blocks out all memory of Justin when he believes Justin died.
A Child's Needs, Justin is a social worker who has to decide if Brian is fit to raise Gus.
Commuter Flight Series, artist/movie art director Justin meets Brian while both commute between NYC and Pittsburgh.
Inescapable, Justin and Brian first meet when Babylon is bombed.
Miracle on Tremont St., Justin is in charge of a department store Santaland; Brian helps market it.
Never Have, Never Will, grad student and Rage creator Justin saves Brian from Michael’s ghost.
Pulse Point, Justin works as a paramedic to put himself through art school; Brian is a trauma surgeon. AKA, "mug!fic".
ETA-: In His Kiss, Justin is an intern in Brian's NYC ad firm, and there's a strict no-fraternization rule. Brian and Justin decide that kisses don't count.

The Detective and the Prosecutor, a very AU tale in which the title describes Brian and Justin respectively.
Finding My Way to You, artist/vice principal Justin falls for single-dad Brian.
Invasion, Justin, an artist and Lindsay’s cousin, comes to Pittsburgh to care for Gus and JR while the moms are away.
Queer as Murder, artist/ art gallery manager Justin falls for homicide detective Brian.
Superstar, another very AU one in which music superstar Justin comes out to be with Brian.
Single-dad Justin subcategory:
All I Need—Is a Little More Time, retail designer Justin and his nephew Jake move into Brian’s old loft.
Always, teenage dad Justin keeps his son Finlay a secret from Brian.
And, I can't remember the title, but the one in which Justin's son needs a heart operation and Mel & Linds die in an accident. Update: This one is Fallacious Perpetration by elyxer.

Date: 2009-10-05 06:38 pm (UTC)Someone had given her a mug with a photo of Brian kissing Justin while Justin wears a paramedic's jacket (see the photo farthest on the right at top) from the episode in which Babylon is bombed. It inspired her to write a story in which Justin is a paramedic.
The story and its nickname are pretty well known in these circles.
