I think I've read them all ...

I've been searching for a good 'in character' fic for a week now and I'm suffering from QAF-FanFictionWithdrawelSyndrome. I start reading fics and then conclude that they're too angsty (I can do angst, but not chapters and chapters long, I want my boys together and in love) or too OOC.

I've read them all, I guess but still I'd like to see if you can give me some recs that I might have overlooked.

Fic requirements:

- IN CHARACTER (one 'baby' from Brian and I'm gone)

- The boys must be together, breakups are fine but still, they have to end up together and I like to read about them together as well.

- Long fics are nice. (since it will keep me off the fanfictionstreets for a few days ;-) )

I think I've read the 'obvious' good ones like xie's, janet's, bdeviled's, chering/fansee's, etc. So I'm looking for the not-so-wellknown-but-really-well-written ones.

Of perhaps you know a way to find really good ones without having to read a lot of crap first (and I mean that in the most respectful way possible of course ;-) ).

Thanx! :)

Update: Plenty of good recs can be found in comments! Thanx! Off to read!

[livejournal.com profile] discothequey fics are great and IC. I love it. All her fics are at her LJ. Have a look.

I always direct people to my recs post because there are just some fics that people tend to miss if they haven't been in fandom long.

Part I. (http://amelialourdes.livejournal.com/321795.html)
Part II. (http://amelialourdes.livejournal.com/347122.html)

I've highlighed some stories but most of the authors I mention, it's just best to read everything! Oh and definitely no "baby" or out of character characterization. Okay, Rizabeau's stories have "baby" and a little, a smidge out of character but still unusually addictive. I think that's the only one I need to warn you about.

If I might bud in, I so agree with you about Rizabeau's stories!!!!! At first when I read the first 'baby' I was like >_> oh great here we go again... But her stories are just so addictive and so well written that it just comes a point where I don't even notice those little things that in other fics might have caused me to turn away from them ^_^!!!! I REALLY rec ALL of her stories, they just amazing. And so help me, they will most certainly keep you reading for days, no matter how fast you think you are at reading!!!!

[identity profile] pat-ace87.livejournal.com 2009-07-16 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Her stories are so worth it, you really should try to read them. And the nding is just ll nice and fluffy ^_^!!!!!!!!

I'm really picky about my fic choices, I made a rec comm [livejournal.com profile] lex_loves. Check it out!

Check out [livejournal.com profile] qaf_faves.

I have been told I don't promote myself enough, so here goes... my boys are always together and always in love. If you don't like WIP's avoid "Of Boxes and Bands" but you might like my one shots :) (my qaf fic here) (http://stephmck.livejournal.com/tag/my+qaf+fic)

(one 'baby' from Brian and I'm gone) ... Oh I'm so with you on this one! I could 've been reading a fic for 15 chapters, and then suddenly there's a "baby" popping up, and I'm like ... ooookay, I'm outta here! *cracks up*

I suggest [livejournal.com profile] wren_kt7oz. Start with Experiment then move on to Homecoming and the sequels. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

[livejournal.com profile] besame_bj would be another one. All of her stories are in canon and will keep you up reading.

I think that both of these authors do a good job of creating stories that focus not on "will Brian and Justin be together?" but more in the vein of Brian and Justin have to struggle together against outside forces.

[identity profile] pat-ace87.livejournal.com 2009-07-15 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
If I might add, you have to friend besame_bj's LJ to read her stories, but they're really worth it. Also she has a community (http://community.livejournal.com/beyond_besame/) you can find some her angsty fics there, but they all have a great ending ^_^!!!!!!

Have you read "Wild Child" by Thyme? http://www.mags-nificent.com/MSW/TF/WildChild.htm It's a future fic where Gus has turned into an extremely rebellious almost-teenager, so his mothers send him to live with Brian. Brian and Justin aren't together at the beginning because Justin is in Europe, but they definitely get back together. I would say everyone is pretty much in character, (but that is really a matter of opinion.)

Also, if you haven't read Bliss_ink's "Love Remains:" http://blissink.livejournal.com/tag/love+remains and "Saving a Life:" http://blissink.livejournal.com/tag/saving+a+life they're amazing and the angst isn't too much.

Two other good ones are London's "Waiting Out in the Cold" series: http://oz-expression.nu/qaflondon/ It's an AU from season 3 on. It's made up of ten stories with ten chapters each.

And "Emotional Rescue" by Kimberley: http://www.mags-nificent.com/MSW/KimF/Emotional.htm Brian comes hom from a business trip to the aftermath of Justin having been raped.

I'm pretty sure there aren't any scenes in any of those with Brian saying "Baby," but I can't promise, so if there's any "babys" in there I apologize in advance.

And here's my rec list (not baby-proofed though) but there's probably something on there for every taste: http://delicious.com/natalilaurin/

If you go here (http://chiaki-chie.weebly.com/queer-as-folk-recommended-fanfiction.html) you can see all my QAF recommendations. Though I can't promise that some of them don't have a "baby" in them, but those are quite few because I also find it weird for Brian to suddenly start calling Justin baby >:D!!!!!

If you haven't yet, do read [livejournal.com profile] akintay - her Queer as Folk fiction is all linked in her sidebar. She is AMAZING at characterization

Definitely look at the recs you were given and add this link to your flist:

http://www.livejournal.com/friends/add.bml?user=insane_retread

It's the rss feed to get the feed of qaf_retread, which now lives on IJ, to show up on your LJ friends page. Retread is a re-reading comm hosted by [livejournal.com profile] _alicesprings and happier_bunny and you will find tons of excellent fics and authors you're unfamiliar with.

The comm moved to IJ to take away some of the housekeeping chores of monitoring birthdates, keeping it locked, approving memberships, etc. It began here on LJ ([livejournal.com profile] qaf_retread though, so earlier entries are in the Memories, but it's just as easy to check the Memories on IJ, too, and you don't have to be a member. As I said, it's an open comm on IJ.

You'll be very happy you checked out this comm!

Have you read any of my fics (http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=violette7) ? I'm not a big fan of angst, so I always get the boys together or back together fast and write them happy for long stretches (or facing external problems).

[identity profile] bj-sling.livejournal.com 2009-07-21 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
If you're a fan of future fics where gus is grown up try some of these (http://bj-sling.livejournal.com/42735.html#cutid1)
