I wanted to see if there were any fics where Brian has a meaningful friendship with someone that isn't a part of the family. It can be an OC or someone that is not a friend in the show.

Tagsit's Summer of Sin on KinnetikDreams.com and Paeansong's Talismen Series on MW. I think his 'outside' friends (which if you ask me are MUCH better friends than the whiny smuck and WASPy blonde lady) make an appearance in the third installment. Truthfully the entire series is GREAT! I just wish she'd finish up the last couple of stories in them (an additional 'Sidebar' and 'The Gathering'). You won't regret reading SOS nor the Talisman series (start with Sparring Partners).
