Something cheerful please people

Ok, so I just got done reading Remission by Simon. It was a good story. However, I suddenly feel the need to read something upbeat. Anything upbeat.

It doesn't have to be fluffy or sappy, just cheerful. But not crackfic, please.

Any help would be seriously appreciated.

Thanks!

Edit: I have a couple of super-fast recs in the comments, but any others would be appreciated.

Edit 2: This was not meant as a reccomendation. While meaning no offence to the author, this is a truly depressing story, made far, far worse by the personal connections and reality it involves. It is not a story I will ever re-read. If you do choose to read it, don't blame me when it upsets you.

When I read something by Simon I needed a brain scrub and to spend a lot of time with positive love affirming stories.

I always rec the same things. So here's one that's purely random but makes me smile.

TT - who is this Simon person and why have you not shared this name with me before? Feeling clueless here. So much fic to read, so little time.

Do NOT read Remission!!!!!

Trust me on this. It's a death fic, and the most depressing story in fandom.

Tx for looking out for me. Bookmark deleted. Close call.

Anytime.

It's based on a true story about a cancer victim that, IIRC, Simon knew. Justin is substituted for the little girl, and it's a long story about him having cancer, going into remission, and eventually dying. It's really not a B/J story, just BJINO (Brian/Justin In Name Only).

Completely OT, but I enjoy watching Justin dance all over my screen. ;)

On topic: I agree with you about that fic. It's probably the only fic in this fandom I've ever only read once... :(

Me too.

That and Reaper Boy. Which, in my opinion, was a much better story, but...the death thing.

Snoopy!Justin is love.

Hey, you didn't rec it!!!

I just can't read that story. It sucked the life out of me.

I waited 6 months for Paddies to make me this icon. It's been my default for 3 years.

I wish someone would have been so kind with me when I found her's "The Other Foot Series"... I thought that it was a tipical story where Justin and Brian are apart but then got back together and it was so depressing that it's still the fic I hate the most in the fandom. I'm not saying that the author wasn't good, but just that it really upsetted me and I still remember it not matter how many happy fics I read... reading that sort of "what if" where they got back together, was definitely a little bit better but I could still have nightmares on this series. And I never went past the first installment in the series which by the way, was fucking heartbreaking in the end of the 8th chapter...

After I read Remission, I decided not to read anything else by the author. And I haven't, and won't. I don't care how many times it's rec'd.

When I first come to fandom, I read pretty much anything I could get my hands on, except for mpreg. That belongs in the HP fandom only. Now, I stick to IC stories, and the occasional crack fic, eg Rizabeau, or Amish!Justin.

[identity profile] sodoesrachael.livejournal.com 2010-02-15 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
But... ASS!BABY JESUS. That is the only mpreg I find acceptable in this fandom. ;)

Yeah, DON'T read that damn "other foot" series. It's... bah. Justin's my all time favorite ever, so noooooooo. Not that series. >:O

lol.

Also: Yessssssss Amish!Justin. I have the love. ;)

Edit: To be clear, I have never read the whole "Other Foot" series. But from what I have read of it: again, nooooo.

Edit 2: Ahhhhh new computer I can't type on yet. *headdesk*

lol

Assbaby!Jesus is a classic!!!

Not reading the other fic, don't worry. I can't read B/other or J/other. I don't mind them having sex with others, so long as it's not a relationship.

Oh God, I am still traumatized by that frigging thing. The fact that I was supposed to be okay with how Justin was treated by everyone after they got back together made me hate all of the characters--even Gus!

[identity profile] jycaegima.livejournal.com 2010-03-05 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
After the end of being thrown away from Brian and most of the family, after the guy Brian decided to make a life with dies, he deigns to take Justin back. Justin is then told, after a lifetime apart how grateful he should be that Brian actual still wanted him and they had a "second chance". Gus being firmly of the belief that Justin shouldn't dare to have issues with being a lifelong chew toy.

Then Brian gets sick and doesn't tell Justin, supposedly for good reason, but basically because he isn't what really matters.

Gag me with a spoon. I need to go read some candy for my brain.

I loved this warning - it made me LOL.

BTW, isn't it rather ironic to name something remission then have it be a death!fic?
