Hi, everyone! Just wanted to give some thanks and praise for letting me know that the site is still useful and being used in fandom after all these years. I don't mind keeping it up and love having it around and revisit it, myself, so I'd love to keep it up. Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] predec2 for starting a little fundraiser to keep the site up. Thanks to fandom, it's definitely renewed and good to go for the next year! I really appreciate the generosity of the donators and donations. I'm not sure everyone's on LJ but in case they are, thank you, thank you, thank you! Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] getithere for still being here when we need it and to get the word out about these things. Once in fandom, always in fandom.

With thanks and appreciation for the approval of the mods --

Yes, it's finally happening, lol. Said I'd get this bloody thing up somewhere...

Dear The Brian/Justin Fanfiction Archive authors,

I’m reaching out to you today about The Brian/Justin Fanfiction Archive, a Queer as Folk (US) fanfiction archive dedicated to the pairing Brian Kinney/Justin Taylor. The archive was founded in the 2000s by Tonya, who was eventually overwhelmed by the volume. A group of people chose to take it over, but sadly, those people dropped off and it was left to a few of us to manage it. Those people, Nightsister and Elyxer in particular, went far and above anything we as a fandom could have hoped. Unfortunately, people fell away and though I hired and paid people to manage the site it didn’t go well.

However, I have also contacted the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW) for assistance in moving The Brian/Justin Fanfiction Archive’s content to a collection on the multi-fandom archive they maintain, the Archive of Our Own (AO3). (Specifically, I will be working with the Open Doors committee. You can read about their recent import projects at http://archiveofourown.org/admin_posts?tag=18.)

Here is where I would like to ask for your help!

1. If you already have an AO3 account and have posted your The Brian/Justin Fanfiction Archive works there, please let me know your The Brian/Justin Fanfiction Archive pseud(s) and e-mail address(es) as well, so that we won’t import your stories. (We can also e-mail you instructions for mass-adding stories to the new collection on the AO3: http://archiveofourown.org/collections/bjfic)

2. If you don’t already have an AO3 account but would like one to import your stories yourself, please let me know your The Brian/Justin Fanfiction Archive pseud(s), and the preferred e-mail address to send the AO3 invite to. (We can e-mail further instructions for importing stories and adding them to the new collection on the AO3: http://archiveofourown.org/collections/bjfic.)

It's been forever and ages since I've posted anything on or DW, much less anything requiring code, so I'll fix any wonky links if necessary.

Any questions, contact either me or Nightsister and what we can't answer, we'll find out for you. You can see the Ao3 announcement on their home page for more info.

(Cross-posting where I can think of - if I miss anywhere, let us know)

Thanks,

cael

good news!

Some of you who have been around the fandom for a while may remember the old bjfic website. It was an amazing archive, and has been sorely missed.

However, the contents are being imported into AO3 (Archive of our Own).

Can I ask everyone to spread the word as widely as they can? Especially to authors whose email may have changed since bjfic site closed.

The full details (including for authors) are here:

http://archiveofourown.org/admin_posts/7590

This is really good news and I'm looking forward to re-reading some amazing stories that I've never found anywhere else.

New status update from Bob on Midnight Whispers. Admins, if this isn’t allowed here, please delete, Thank you.

Whispers is down due to an FTP port Virus that deleted all root directory files and our database. We have daily CLOUD backups and are in the process of restoring the site with yesterday's copy. Due to the size of our site this will take some time. We are now using efiction software which is vulnerable to many website threats. Therefore, Whispers is currently in the process of creating a totally new CMS custom software website with state-of-the-art security. We regret this current situation; however, plans are in motion to keep it from ever happening again.

The site is now back online!

I apologize if this doesn't belong here but I was wondering if Anyone knows what happened to the Midnight Whispers site?
[identity profile] bluecat731.livejournal.com
So. Is anyone else having problems getting Midnight Whispers to open? I keep getting a generic "Ads related to Midnight Whisper" with the Time Warner logo. Not the actual site.

Thanks.

Here is the link of a new GIH backup site!

Unfortunately you'll have to log in to download the fics, and I'll be the only one who'll be able to add fics there (something I'll try to do once a week), but if the 4shared accounts were to disappear like the Megaupload account we had, this site would still be here :)

I'm still searching for an easier script to use (one where people would be able to upload themselves), but in the meantime, I hope you'll find this one useful.

The first page is just to get the username and password to log in and a bit of a rambling about the way things are organized.
Please, if you'd like to contact me about the site for whatever reason, comment there. No need to log for that :) Just enter a valid email adress so that I can answer you.

Thank you :)

Just a head's up, Megaupload is gone.

....so...does anyone have the "DL Lost Fics Here" all backed up somewhere?

ETA: It seems that a few people have those fics all backed up. A couple people are also willing to set up DL archives inside of their own websites. See the comments for more details.

So come join us counting down the days to Christmas with something new every day to enjoy.

You need to be a member to view the content behind the doors, but membership is simple and free.

We hope you will enjoy the calendar and welcome all comments in the TQL forum.

Red/Court let me know if this isn't allowed.

Someone posted looking for more chapters of a fic they had only a couple of chapters for.

Remembering the author used to post to Midnight Whispers, I went back through a few things and recovered the link to all of the old Midnight Whispers files from, well, ages ago.

Midnight Whispers went through a couple of server problems in 2009 or 2008 - I can't really remember. Upshot is they had to rebuild the database.

They had the raw text files and provide a link for authors to recover their files if they wanted to repost them.

Some authors - such as myself - decided that after two times of having to rebuild we weren't going to bother to rebuild our directories. So basically, there's a bunch of stuff from older authors that may or may not be available for someone to find.

The way the file structure works is that there is a separate directory for each author.

In each author's directory the files are numbered sequentially in text files.

However, it looks like this system is/was running on UNIX because you will get a sort order that is "Alphabetical" not "Numeric" like:

2827.txt
2862.txt
288.txt
2943.txt
2984.txt
301.txt
3043.txt
3182.txt
320.txt
3271.txt
342.txt

So if you are willing to do the work, you may find those lost chapters and lost authors.

You can start digging here:

I’m happy to say that True Queer Love is now back online.
We’ve been given a clean bill of health by Google and more than a handful other places.

To be totally sure to get rid of everything malicious we cleaned our code rather than using a backup. Thanks to this we haven’t lost a single thing, aside from the hours online.

We’ve taken the chance to add a few more features and the latest Sunshine File is posted for all of you that follow the re-read/posting of it at TQL.

Welcome back!

/Nickie

Well it appears that another good site for QAF has gone with the wind. The account has been suspended. Does anybody has her mail or has the ability to contact her and ask, what is going on?  It appears to me, that there are some forces trying to eliminate the QAF sites from internet. Metka

EDIT: The link is in the comments.
EDIT#2: IF ANYBODY IS INTERESTED - THE SITE IS BACK ON. I JUST CHECKED

Hi!
I’m one of the True Queer Love administrators.

Unfortunately, Google and I both discovered harmful code on our site about the same time and as a result Google users now see the warning page some of you have already came across when attempting to visit pages within the site. To be on the safe side I have also locked down the entire site and am at the moment the only one that can enter the site while we’re working on correcting the problem.

Very important information for ALL TQL users )

Posted with permission from your wonderful moderator, [livejournal.com profile] court1429, I just wanted to make people aware of an archive dedicated to the Queer Eyes website aptly named the Queer Eyes Archive.

QUEER EYES ARCHIVE

With permission from the original owner, [livejournal.com profile] paddies, I created a replica of the old Queer Eyes site as it was with fan fiction links intact. I've just updated their original links and replaced inactive ones. But, all the links are there in their original order. Videos, archived clips, recaps, etc. remain on the site. I've linked my screencap website to the site because it was a project that was originally for [livejournal.com profile] paddies' Queer Eyes.

So, feel free to give it a look! My intent is solely for preservation and to keep the website as it was originally created. Nothing new will be added to it. Thanks and acknowledgments can be found in my original post here. Thanks everyone!

True Queer Love has recently opened it's doors to story submissions and forum discussions.
The TQL community opended on Friday, October 8th 2010 with over 300 stories already on the site's opening day.
The community stemmed form the TQL forum created in March of 2006 which has since provided the fandom with a safe place to recieve support and constructive critisism.
The forum has expanded with an archive and a brand new look,
but the same philosophy still stands;one family, one love.
We welcome you to join our new community and become part of the fandom.
Welcome!

[livejournal.com profile] flamencanyc was gracious enough in a comment to post a link to the BJFic LJ site.

Any info about the current issues with the archive will be posted here.
