Brian and Justin deal with mental illness

I was wondering if there were any B/J fics where they deal with a different mental illness other than multiple personality disorder, like Schizophrenia for example. Like Justin has it and gets kicked out of deb's house cause she doesn't understand it or him and Brian sees this and takes him home with him to the loft. He then helps Justin to deal with it and such.  I don't think there are as I haven't run across any yet, but it never hurts to ask any way.

Much of my Mirror-verse deals with Brian's fugue episodes (http://psychology.jrank.org/pages/262/Fugue.html) and how they impact their relationship. They even have a psychiatrist on call and in one of the sequels, Brian disappears out of Justin's life after an episode.

I read that it's a good fic, but that really wouldn't get Justin thrown out of the place he's living in. I read a fic here recently that had brian doing that same thing and him and Justin went to therapy together as well Brian going alone. But I'm more of looking for one's on Justin's end not Brian's.

The irony of that fic is just...really. I'll check it out as well. I used to suffer that eating disorder after I was bulimic. Really it was a one right after the other kinda thing.

I had an eating disorder as well, which made it especially meaningful. The disorder and the recovery are really intense and realistic, so it can be really upsetting to some people.

It really is, I agree. Shit I dropped down to 80 pounds and was told by the doctor that if my parents had waited any longer, I'd been dead within a month. That was a wake up call of sorts, but I'm still fighting the urges of either to puke or just not eat. It has so many causes not just body image issues that sometimes it is hard to pinpoint the exact cause.

How does one have an eating disorder based restrictions? *kinda confused...honestly* I mean I know there's different types of eating disorders, I just don't really get that one. Eating disorders of any definition are hard to over come and it's hard to keep oneself from reverting back to it.

You're welcome, hope you enjoy! By 'restriction', I mean restrictive eating (i.e. limiting food intake). Anorexia is a eating disorder based on hyper-restriction, as is orthorexia (what Brian has in this story). This is opposed to other EDs like compulsive overeating, or just to disordered eating. EDs are extremely difficult to recover from - they're like Black Holes. You feel like you're trapped in them and when you finally break out, you have to fight tooth and nail against yourself not to slide back into them.

But on that note, this story does have a happy, but realistic ending :-) Hope you'll enjoy it ;-)

Oh ok! Now I understand that one better, thanks for clearing it up. Exactly, I mean right now I have this urge to purge my system of my dinner I just ate. But since I don't really want to actually do that I'm telling my brain to knock it off with urges. I still can't believe I let my own shit get so bad that I developed two EDs one right after the other. Orz.

There is a great fic where Brian and Justin are reunited in a mental institution, but I haven't read any stories that deal with Justin having schizophrenia. Maybe you could write it? I would definitely read it! :)

My head is just...idk, every time I tried to finish the one I get this feeling like I'm going to freak the fuck out mentally. And one of my faves, "Brian Kinney is Sex" by Bea_nonymous which you can download from Aly's GIH 4-shared mirror in the sidebar. It deals mainly with Justin's slow descent into depression and Brian trying to help him. Fair warning, though - it may not end the way you want it to...

I've read Smouldering, but stopped when it ran off on a tangent that I found was really unnecessary. Over all it was a great fic. Catatonic doesn't mean he has a mental illness though.

Sounds like a either a character death fic or B/J go there separate ways at the end.

I think maybe Josslin wrote Aliens (thought I don't have a link) in which Justin developed schizophrenia while living with Brian. B doesn't kick him out but J ends up in an institution. I only read it once but I do remember B replacing the dishwasher, J wearing a tin foil hat and a mysterious ending.

I read that one and that one was just over the top in my opinion. Yeah J wasn't Schizophrenic in that one, he was being picked on by aliens and his first encounter set off basic paranoia. At the end both him and B went with the aliens in their ship I believe, or that's how the ending read to me anyway.
