Fifty Shades themed fics....*Some recs inside*

I just finished Fifty Shades of Grey book 1. I was wondering if there are any fics along the lines of Shades for my boys Brian and Justin. If so please share.

Thanks in advance!!!

I wanted to say: I sure fucking hope not!

But then I remembered what fandom I'm in and that I'd be up for a big disappointment. Check the bdsm tag, I'm certain people have been writing this kind of fic since the beginning of internet. 50 shades isn't even much different from every generic bdsm fic.

Seriously, there's so much good erotica out there. Why would you subject yourself to 1000 pages of unedited, sub-par fanfic? Which, btw, is still available as twilight fanfic somewhere, for free. Just do a find+replace Edward>Christian and Bella>Anastasia and you get the same thing, only you don't have to pay like 20 dollars for a pretty cover. There used to be a writer in this fandom who also wrote pretty hot Brian/Justin bdsm, only she actually knew how to write. She now publishes under the name Jan Irving. Her book The Mask is also repackaged B/J fanfic, but it was actually edited and readable even back when it was posted on LJ.

OK, I don't want to be uselessly rude, I apologize for my outburst, I just react allergically to 50 shades. My rec is: it's not allowed to request fics by this author in this comm, but if you're willing to spend a few bucks, check out Mask by Jan Irving (http://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=1177). It's BDSM, it's M/M and it used to be a Brian/Justin fanfic. I only read one or two chapters of the original fic, but it is hot and Jan is a good erotica writer who also knows how to write plot, which cannot be said about EL James. If you liked the relationship dynamics in 50 Shades, I think you might like Mask.

*pets* S'okay, I facepalmed pretty hard, myself.

Good rec. I have mixed feeling about Jan, but I was certainly sucked into many a fic of hers once upon a time :)

Here's that BDSM tag (http://getithere.livejournal.com/tag/kink%3A%20bdsm) for you ('cause not everyone knows to look under "kink").

I saw this and wanted to go to my local bookstore and find every copy of this POS and set it on fire. Ironically, Adam Lambert did a reading of this on the radio today...*headdesk* We won't even go into how I felt about this...check my Twitter feed from yesterday, I went off there. lol

There is so much good BDSM D/s out there, why read this crap? Or better still, why subject B/J to it??

Sorry, sorry...I just lose my shit whenever this story is mentioned. I think of all the good writers that crossed over from fandoms, and they don't get nearly the praise or notice that they should, based on the genre they write for. But hey, take a POS het fanfic and turn it into a POS original fic...and have it optioned for a fucking movie.

Is it BDSM? BDSM fic that I remember exactly is 'You Bet Your Ass' by Vamphile.
I've read Noir & Apple from Jan Irving too before she locked all her fics.
Oh also Want from crazyevildru http://www.livejournal.com/tools/memories.bml?user=crazyevildru&keyword=Want&filter=all but to read, you have to friend her.

I was recently at a party with old college friends. One man asked, "Have you read Fifty Shades of Grey like every other housewife in America?"

I answered, "No, I have better porn."

I figured Brian/Justin was better than Edward/Bella (or their whatever they've been renamed to make the book original fic). He did goggle a bit at my reply.

I read it because I was curious especially because of the "former fan fiction" aspects. It wasn't all bad - just badly written *coughs*. Which means that it still sucks you in. Obviously. People may say that they don't like it, but they still buy it, don't they? For me, it's a good example for "guilty pleasures".

I do agree that we have way better porn here in our fandom, but there are AUs about "Pretty Woman" and other stuff that is just as bad and I still read it, so why not "50 shades"? Just stealing the concept doesn't necessarily mean that it has to be a bad thing.

[identity profile] rinmonsterer.livejournal.com 2012-06-02 12:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I think that sooner or later someone will adapt 50 shades for b/j fic, it's just that 50 shades itself is not original, lol. That's the problem with it - it's a very generic concept that's been done to death before, only 50 shades turns it 5 times longer than before, and puts it into awful, cringeworthy prose. "Fabulously rich Alpha male seduces an innocent virgin and turns her into his sub" books have been written since the dawn of Harlequin, or whatever its NC-17 rated counterpart is called.

[livejournal.com profile] confused_bliss has a WIP called Chosen (http://confused-bliss.livejournal.com/tag/chosen) that's BDSM. I haven't read any of it, so I can't tell you whether it's good or not, but it is being updated regularly.

[identity profile] rinmonsterer.livejournal.com 2012-06-02 02:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I know that I spend too much time on LJ when I look at "POS" and think "People of... what??" lol, piece of shit is right.

I think the best reading I've found so far is by Gilbert Gottfried: http://cltampa.com/dailyloaf/archives/2012/05/21/gilbert-gottfried-reads-50-shades-of-grey-video#.T8ogL0c21IE
Certainly 'the way it is meant to be read' :D

I'm the same with this book. But I console myself with the thought that it's not because people choose shitty erotica over the good one, it's because looking up erotic ebooks online is one of the things middle-aged women can't ask their sons to help with. And also, because it was a cynical exploit of Twilight fandom. It wouldn't get to the mainstream if crazed twihards didn't catapult it there (for which, of course, they didn't get an ounce of thanks from James). It's obvious that 50 shades is the exact same relationship dynamic twihards love in twilight. The reason good writers didn't find the same success with domestic abuse packaged as romance is because they're smart enough to see that this is wrong. James is either too cynical to care or she doesn't see that... 50 shades is a marketing phenomenon, not a literary one. James knew what she was doing when she ctrl+h'd her fanfic and posted it on amazon. She was so popular as a fanfic writer she got her own fucking convention! There's an LJ that tells the story of how she was determined to "cash in on her paycheck" after her pornfic raised like $30.000 (?) on a charity auction.

Wow, just spent an hour googling, wikipedia-ing 50 shades of grey since I had no freaking clue what it was about and I am just...errm...Just not my cup of tea. High up there with the CheeseGrater!Fic.

Uhmmm...if you want BDSM go for elyxer's site and some of her stories.

Ehmmm...for a better and much lighter, psychologicaly rational explanation/scenes of BDSM without stomping on Marquis de Sade and Sacher-Masoch go for Why not with me by indigo over on midnightwhispers.

ps. A BESTSELLER? For reals?! THUD!

I'm glad you all cleared up what Shades of Gray was about. It is all anyone and everyone at my job are talking about. I downloaded a sample and was unimpressed, after all, I have been reading bj fanfiction, LOL. I never got past the first 2 pages of the book.

I'm not into BDSM. It's just not my thing, but I did take a chance on confused_bliss' Chosen, and I do enjoy it.

I've read Jan Intentions and love the plot of her stories. I just skip through the BDSM parts.

As when people as me if I have read Shades of Grey, I just tell them I'm too old and jaded for such fare. I read Anne Rice's Sleeping beauty when most of them were in grade school. I need a story with more substance than that.

Now about Twilight fanfiction...I have and do indulge. There are some excellent stories there as well as some not so good, but that can be said for anywhere as demonstrated recently about squick fics, I think it is called.^^

"No, I have better porn." Fuck yeah! ;D
and now that little exchange makes me think of Justin at Ethan's friends' party! ;)

I don't get the '50 shades' craze. It's rehashed porn, and not good porn either. The first BDSM book I read was the story of 'O'. Anyone read that?

[identity profile] vlredreign.livejournal.com 2012-06-02 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Besides the fact that it sucks, talk to some people in the lifestyle. They are livid over the depiction of the lifestyle. Plus which, I really don't find anything remotely sexy about tampon removal in my porn. *shudders*

[identity profile] bidyke73.livejournal.com 2012-06-02 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, it's not even published in Germany yet, so I haven't really talked to many people about it. I wrote a preview in my blog (which was the main reason for reading the whole thing in the first place instead of just flipping through the sex scenes, um, pages) and the BDSM thing was indeed my main point of criticism. Not so much that James toys with the concept, I think that BDSM lifestyle people have to accept that many people occasionally play without really going all the way. What really made me squirm was the fact that Christian Grey himself is emotionally unstable because of former experiences with abuse and that the author sort of suggests that BDSM sex is a crutch for him before Ana teaches him to "walk" by loving him and showing how to "make love". There even is a scene where Christian says: "We're lovers, we don't need safewords." I can see why this makes people angry.
About the tampon removal, yeah well, I did not find that overly gross. I didn't find it sexy, but kind of sweet actually. I'd even say if women's bodily juices cross such a line we might need more of those scenes...

Sure it's not original at all. In every sense of the word. I'm just honest about the fact that if it's readable and pops up in my fandom, I'll read it anyway. Might even be better than the "original"...

Um...what exactly is CheeseGrater!Fic????????

Re: o_O

[identity profile] sungaizing85.livejournal.com 2012-06-02 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Everyone!!! We have an innocent soul that hasn't come across the CG!Fic.

Okay, I am gonna tell you but please...pleeaaaase don't go and read it. I will not be responsible for yet another traumatized person.

It's a fic called Blood and Fire by Starema that has extremly violent, gory, disturbing scenes of a tortured Justin in Brian's loft by two sadistic thugs 'hired' by Mikey that at one point use a cheese grater against his skin, thighs etc ... among other 'things' and leave him for dead. Let's just say Brian passes out when he comes back home and even a paramedic screams.

Yep...the CG!fic...shudders and goes for a therapeutic cup of hot cocoa.

*lol* I so not sure if I need to explore that. You think it's compulsory for real fans?

Yes...

Compulsory...

To stay the fu*k away from it!

This ignorant take on BDSM makes me angry, and I don't even like BDSM. I read an article lately where a guy confessed that he liked this book, because it taught him a lot about women's sexuality. Um, of course he liked it! This book taught him that it's okay to initiate sexual acts his lover is not comfortable with, she will bear with enjoy everything because she loves him! Ana didn't know what she was signing up for and Christian took advantage of her innocence. BTW, remember the defloration scene? OMG! Date rape, if I ever saw one. SHE WAS A FREAKING VIRGIN! A little preparation would be nice, Christian, but y'know, don't let a small detail like putting her through excruciating pain derail you from getting your gratification. I HATE that James romanticized that.

I like your take on the tampon scene, but personally, if someone did this to me when I'm on my second day of period and don't feel like fucking, or, to be honest, living, someone would be picking his teeth from his million dollar marble floor. It is not okay to invade someone's body like that.
