1. I was reccing some fiction to my friend Cam, one of the story's was written by Morpheus, Dark Roots. Well, Cam loved that and went to read more fics and then she found the pre-season 3 stories here by Morpheus:

Because I needed to ask something here anyway I figured I'd ask her ? first. I can't recall because its been a LOOOONG time since I read them. Are these all parts in one series? If not, which ones are and which ones are standalone stories?
Edit: #1 Found, thank you
kmboatright for answering the question. They are all a series beginning with Shattered.
2. It isn't my imagination or is it? Marvin Deekins is the incumbent Mayor, meaning he was Mayor and Jim Stockwell was running to de-seat him, correct? I have this feeling that the show has proof of this in an episode and though I've watched 309-314 through and through over the last couple of weeks, I still am not getting it but I could be missing it because I get distracted with all the other wonderful things I'm constantly memorizing while watching my favorite QAF episodes. Help?
Edit: #2 Found, thank you to
besamebj for your help.
Mayor Deekins was Councilmen Deekins before the election. So the current Mayor was not running in the race.
And on that note, I found out that since 1934 all of the mayors have been democrat, with the exception of 2, one who was nominated by both parties and another who claimed Independent/Democrat. I guess I just find it odd that such a democratic city would've so drastically changed to the lengths it did for Stockwell. Yes, yes, I realize that it is not real, but stil.... *sigh*

Date: 2012-05-07 03:04 am (UTC)the stories that start with Shattered, and go through The Prisoner of Tremont Street and finish with Golden Gate and Five Years Later, those are set after season two and go AU. If you start with Shattered they all follow one after the other (I've reread them many times). Because they go AU, they won't really make sense if you jump in to the middle instead of reading them in order. Morpheus does have some stand-alone stories, but these are a series. A very very good series.
:)
My favorite of Morpheus' stories is the Trading Spaces series, which starts after the end of season three and goes AU from there, with Brian unable to find a job in the Pitts and finding one in LA.

Date: 2012-05-07 03:12 am (UTC)I love Trading Spaces too. I recced that one to my friend as well, but she wanted to read a fic where Brian has a different father and that is one of the best ones I've read so I recced that first. I'm sure she'll be addicted and want to read Trading Spaces too, I soooo love that one. Some of my favorite stories are canon Season 3 (pre or post) AU's. I think actually that category must be my ultimate favorite as now that I'm thinking about it, all my top 5 favorite fics of all time reside in that time period or right off S2 with S3 elements or directly after S3. Suppose it has to do with that being my favorite collection of episodes and story arcs too.
I think I'll have to re-read the pre s3 series when I have some time because it has been too long and I just love Morepheus' writing. Thanks so much, now I can call and tell her to go ahead and start reading.

Date: 2012-05-07 03:47 am (UTC)From Wikipedia:
Carl and Debbie's relationship becomes strained during the third season, when Carl feels he has to back Chief Stockwell in the mayoral election or risk reprisal from the police force, while Debbie strongly supports the implied Democrat, Councilman Deekins.

Date: 2012-05-07 04:01 am (UTC)I'm writing a season 3 canon story and a lot of it depends on what may have been on the show 'minor details' in Season 3 but are very important in how I design the further storyline. I've been stuck going further with writing because of this one fact, so I really appreciate you answering and giving me a link to the wiki too! Fantastic! And more so, I am glad that the answer is that he is NOT the mayor because it works more in my muse's favor.

Edit: *slaps head* On the television in 314 I think the news anchors say, "Councilman" quite a few times. I can't believe I missed that, I think I was listening for Mayor too much.

Date: 2012-05-07 04:32 am (UTC)Season 3 is always the one I've watched the most (I think), but I always find new small details that draw my attention. My story is canon and I'm trying to keep everything in character while also retaining the major events in canon storyline but also combining them with real life facts. It seems to me that S3-S4 is when the cowlip timeline really took a ridiculous hit. So that problem is big enough trying to write something but searching for the things in the series that I want to bring into my fic has been aggravating at times.
I started this story for Nano where no editing is 'allowed' and now that I'm going back through it to continue writing it I have just found too many places where I will pause and say 'look this up' and can't find it. I'm doing okay with some things but it's the election time that is getting me.
Do you by chance happen to know if the name of the Mayor was ever mentioned? Because the mayoral race should be taking place on Nov 4, 2003 never took place in reality and I don't recall them ever mentioning why there was an election. If they never mentioned the name then I have some leeway with my story a bit.
Thank you again.

Date: 2012-05-07 04:48 am (UTC)I long ago stopped worrying about the CowLip timeline. That happened after I realized that S4 would've had to have been six months because of Mel's pregnancy. Ridiculous! So I don't think about it too much.
Afraid I don't remember anyone talking about the current mayor at that time. Sorry!

Date: 2012-05-07 05:01 am (UTC)Certain episodes in season 1 are my favorite and I tend to go back and forth between what my favorite season actually is, but a lot of Season 1 for me was tainted a bit from seeing the British version, which I try to forget entirely. But right now, definitely season 3 is my favorite for my mood I guess and possibly it also has some of my favorite music too.
Well, if you don't remember it, and I don't find it when viewing the episodes one more time, then I say he wasn't mentioned. LOL!
Thanks again for your help, really appreciate it.
