Ok I am looking for a specefic stroked Joan fic. Its the one where she has displaysia. You know where she means to say one thing and says the other. She has notes to show folks but Brian seems to always know what she means.

I think you must mean 'aphasia'. Hope this makes it easier to find -- I'd like to read it. :-)

I think "aphasia" is when you understand but can't speak. I know someone who had a stroke and this is the result.

Definitely sounds like some form of aphasia. My extensive research via Wikipedia (lol) indicates that there are a whole bunch of more specific aphasias that range from having difficulty remembering words to being completely unable to speak, read, or write.

This has been driving me crazy ever since I saw your request. I knew the story but couldn't but my mind to the author and name. All of a sudden it came to me or at least I'm pretty sure this is the story.

Yes is is but I think it is a good story. Very emotional but I thought realistic. I find in real life that many who have had bad relationships with a parent often step in to help them when needed. They do it with grace and compassion just like Brian did for Joan in this story. I loved the ending too. Just overall a great story.
