Justin is in a coma and Brian visits every day for years but is with someone else, maybe called Colin?
He eventually comes out of the coma and they try to continue working together and Brian continuing his relationship.
Think it could have been a sequel.

I think the story is Kinnetically Charged by Saturn, which is a sequel to Forever Young. I'm sorry I don't know how to include a link but it is on Midnight Whispers.
