This is a total shot in the dark, but lately I've been thinking about a fic I read years and years ago and wondering if it's still out there. In it, Brian gets cast in a movie about a gay runner in the 1970's because the character is a lot like him: out, proud, hot, cocky, ambitious and talented. I believe the movie may have been based on a true story or a book, possibly The Front Runner. It all gets started because the director meets Brian through Justin while he's working on Rage; it's canon before that if I remember right. I believe it takes some convincing for Brian to take the part, but he ends up getting really into it, losing himself and generally being miserable. I remember one scene in which Justin is watching them film a part where Brian is running in a race and one of the homophobic other runners trips him and makes him fall. I think it may have been the climax of the film; they do it repeatedly and Brian is getting really beat up by falling over and over again. Does this ring any bells for anyone? Like I said, it's been years, but I figured I'd give it a try. Thanks!

This sounds very much like [livejournal.com profile] gaedhal's Queer series. I'm not sure if it's online right now. She had some site issues...

It sounds like [livejournal.com profile] gaedhal's Queer Theories, where Brian stars in a movie based on the life of a murdered gay Olympic runner. But he doesn't meet the director through Justin. The director is a former lover of his, and it does have the scene where he keeps falling, but it is part of the filming.

I know her website has been down so I'm not sure where to link you other than her journal.

She may even see this and be able to give you a current link.

Arwensong actually has a story based on the book "The Front Runner." It is still a wip. Here's her series page.

It's called "For Love of Justin." I know it has nothing to do with a movie, but if you don't know about it, you might like it.

Later!

It does sound a lot like Queer Theories, but I definitely reccommend reading it, even if it isn't. However, word of warning, QT is extremely long, and extremely, extremely addicting!

Yes, that's definitely "Queer Theories" -- the scene where
Brian falls is part of the filming of "The Olympian" (which
is loosely based on the book "The Front Runner."

Downloads are available at the link above, as well as at
my Yahoo group:

Just ask and I'll approve you for the group. Then you can
get all the fics in the File section, including the
sequels. "Queer Theories" and Queer Realities" are completed,
"Queer Identites" is currently being posted.

Enjoy!
