literary references in QAF

Hello!

As we all know there are some literary references in QAF, like Brian’s take on Kafka’s “Metamorphosis” or his quote “Had we but world enough, and time” from “To His Coy Mistress”. So I was wondering if anybody knows if all this literary references are collected somewhere? If not, can you think of anything more than the two I already mentioned? Maybe we can put together a list?

Thanks! :)

Yes, there are many, many more. And yes, I have compiled a pretty (though I'm sure not entirely) complete list of QaF's literary and musical references. I just haven't gotten around to posting it yet.

How about I promise I'll try to finally get off my ass and get it posted by the end of the month?

I'll try to get to it and post to my LJ as soon as I can.

That's such a great idea. Some references I recognized myself, but as I'm not a native speaker and sure haven't read all "classics" I surely have missed most of them.

It would be interesting to see a comprehensive compilation. I'm thinking of a couple more - Brian's reference to playwright Gorky's Lower Depths when he's at the Baths, and also a Hamlet reference that Ben catches - I think when Brian's conflicted about Justin's vigilante phase. One thing that always surprised me after realizing that Brian was comfortable with literary references was that there weren't really any books in his loft. That's pretty unrealistic. Should have been a big bookcase somewhere.

You're right. It's never quite explained why he is so well educated. I love that about him. Intelligence and education is sexy.

He likes reading. there're many scenes showing him reading. His work also requires good use with words.

He keeps the bookcase in his super secret storage room. You know, the place where he keeps the portrait he bought at the GLC, his teddy bear collection, and his pink fuzzy blankie.

Although why he keeps the books hidden away is a mystery.

The portrait he bought at the GLC you can see it in episode 110 in the bedroom of Brian, when Justin is teaching loft to Daphne.

Well, such a list would be interesting for sure ^^

But lately I also thought about a list of all the crap Brandon talks - I mean, it's hilarious how many cheesy relations he makes XD
Like 'The lion was ripped in pieces' and blablabla *snorts* XD
