if i remember right, justin was in new york when all of this stuff surfaced, and then brian was acting sort of secretive and distant and distracted and justin was worried something was going on. he had friends in new york that he was hanging out with when he has a melt down in the car and the female friend calls brian to get justin over his freak out, then later justin shows up on brian's doorstep to find out if he's cheating and finds the daughter there, who had run away from home. wasn't she like 5 or 6? i just can't remember the name or the author... sorry.

aha! i found it. the daughter's name wasn't sam, the author's name was sam... ha ha. anyway, it's "left of center" by sam... whew, that was driving me nuts.
