Queer As Folk US Series

Hi, I asked for this in my last post and was given this link: http://qafmaniac.livejournal.com/221957.html Unfortunately, I was only able to download the first three episodes and in those videos, the sound was behind the video by like five minutes. So then I tried to find a place to watch the series online, but most of the links turned out to be broken. So now I'm asking you guys again: does anybody know where I could either watch or download the entire QAF US Series that is of decent quality? I'd just go out and buy the series, but money is beyond tight at the moment so I probably won't get it until my next birthday on October 14th, which is a long ways away. I want to watch the show now, though, so I'm hoping someone can help me. If you don't know of a place to watch or download the series anymore but have it downloaded on your computer or a flash drive from a time when it was available, please let me know and I'll give you my email address so you can send it to me. Thanks so much, everyone, and sorry for any trouble!

Torrents are really the only way to go if you want to see the series in its entirety. Every download site has been compromised since the crackdown on Megaupload. Each season of the show is available for less than $20 used on Amazon and I'm sure even cheaper on eBay.

Hi! I watched the whole series online. I streamed every episode. With the crackdown on downloading I would not attempt to do that, but I was able to see the whole series. Actually a lot of the shows are available on youtube. I watch most stuff through links from 1channel.ch

If you send me your email addy I can send you a few hints to find working links with the least amount of frustration. There is a trick to some of it. You can IM me.

Sometimes when audio isn't syncing correctly you might have to try using a different player and the problem resolves itself completely. Might be something to try.

Excuse me for being a spoil sport - it's just that I'm a bit shocked about how unaware people are of copyrighted material these days. It's one thing to watch parts on Youtube or if there's a free TV channel, but the rest is just illegal as far as I know. And I'm sorry that you don't have the money, but if you haven't you can't buy it. Simple as that. I am not able to buy most things I want to buy either. Just sayin'. Or am I just wrong here?

Believe me, I know it's not really right to watch stuff I haven't paid for online, but I'm not going to apologize for it. For one thing, I am definitely not the only person to do it, and for another, when I say my family is hard up for money I'm not kidding. We have the internet, thank God, and Netflix, but besides old CDs and books that's all the entertainment we get. We probably shouldn't even have that - it's tough enough just to get food - but we'd all go nuts if we didn't have SOMETHING fun to do. So yeah, it isn't really right, and I know I'm not the only person in the world with money problems, but I'm going to do it anyway until we get to a place where we can afford to buy things. I'm not really a fan of breaking the law - my past is colorful, to say the least, and I really don't care for cops (at least the ones that act all superior and have God complexes) - but this particular crime seems fairly small to me so I don't really worry about it. Especially since I DO buy things when I can afford them. So yeah, you are definitely right, but this is one thing I don't particularly care too much about. God only knows how many people do it besides me, so why should I feel bad about this when I already feel so bad about so many other things? Also, I'm a big fan of fan fiction, and some people could view reading that as almost the same thing as watching shows online. I mean, maybe the plotlines of our stories belong to us but the rest is all from whatever show or book or movie the fic is about. Anyway, it's just not a big deal to me and I'm not pushing anybody else to do it, so I don't really see too much harm in it.

I hesitated to post my comment becausee, yeah, you're right, most of us are hardly innocent here. Then again, I thought, that's exactly the reason why I wanted to point out that I feel wrong about it. This is not so much about the law. It's about authors, playwrights, musicians whose creative output just isn't worth anyone to pay for it anymore. I'm not even judging, it's just that I learned differently. I know it sound double standard, but it since a few years, it seemed to be "netiquette" for me not to post torrent link and stuff like that openly in forum threads. You knew of course that people shared it anyway, but you had to write a PM. So is that better? Hardly. But still it was a sign for me that people still are aware that there are copyright issues and that they affect people. Now reading it so openly, and reading all the answers like it was totally normal to just ask for anything and get it online - well, it just took it one step further for me, you understand? Apart from that, you know, I'm all for you enjoying our favorite series. It's not about that and probably sounds weird anyway, but maybe you do understand my intention here. Not to take everything for grante. Gee. Hard to explain. And so hard to grasp the issue, because you're right that we all do it...

No, I totally get it and you make a very good point about the creators of the shows and movies I and others basically steal online. I hadn't thought of that before, and I feel bad about it but I'm not going to stop until my family and I can afford to buy the entertainment stuff. When I can afford it, though, I definitely will buy it because it's only right. But like I said before, we don't have much in the way of entertainment and too much free time tends to cause really awful fights. You also make a good point about PMing to ask for episodes, but the thing is I wouldn't know who to PM. But I think I will PM one of the mods and ask if maybe it would be a good idea to lock posts requesting episodes so at least non-members won't see them. But anyway, I do agree with you but I worry too much as it is and I doubt it would help the writers and film makers much if only I stopped, so I figure I'll let myself off the hook for this one. :)

QAF is over 10 years old. I doubt anyone gives a rip about ppl dl'ing the show. People have been sharing dls of this since it ended, and we've not had any complaints. I think the time for pearl-clutching is way past.

Ten years old? I had no idea. I only got into it a couple of years ago. Well, I won't feel quite so bad for illegally downloading this show now though I do still plan to buy it when it's affordable. Another comment from Bidyke73 last night mentioned that the creators of the tv shows and movies and stuff we watch on the internet for free have to be losing at least some money, which had never occurred to me before. I'm not bothered enough by that fact to stop streaming and downloading stuff - especially since I'd be like one person out of billions to stop and it wouldn't actually help anything - but when I do have money again, the first thing I'm going to do is buy some DVDs because we had to sell nearly all of the ones we had to keep food on the table. Anyway, if a person can afford to, they really should get such things the legal way if only to keep creators from getting frustrated and quitting their jobs or something. Because life would totally, completely suck without movies and television and all that stuff. But I'm certainly no saint and I'm not going to deprive myself while I wait to become financially stable again. One thing - I've never heard that expression before, about pearl-clutching I mean. I get what you mean but I just had to say that I love the way you put that. It's really original - well, at least to me. Anyway, people could probably debate for years about the ethics of watching and downloading stuff we haven't paid for, but it really doesn't matter because people are still going to do it. I do feel that if people can afford the stuff they want that they should go that route instead, but that's just my opinion because I think it's only right to support the creators of our entertainment when possible. Except for The Sentinel - they only put the first season on DVD and cut their own throats, as far as I'm concerned.

I guess that's because it was ahead of its time when it was done. That's why especially Season 1 feels so exciting, I think. My criticism wasn't specifically about QAF but about my issues with this in general. I do know that the internet has changed a lot here and like I said, I'm quite used to the advantages, too. Still, I don't think that it is wrong to remain sensitive about the issue - again, NOT because someone actually gives a shit but because we tend to forget about what was normal just a few years ago: that there is such a thing as intellectual property.
By the way: Fan fiction is different to me. People don't intend to make money out of it and it's no crime to use your imagination.

I get you. I realize I got kind of chatty last night and obviously misunderstood what you were saying - put it down to lack of sleep. You're right, people (me, for sure) do sometimes forget stuff like that, or don't think of it, or don't care at all. But then that's true about most things - from what I've seen and experienced in my lifetime, people tend to take things for granted until those things are taken away for a time. But about the show being ten years old, I had absolutely no idea about that! I only got into this fandom a couple of years ago. I'm really shocked - you are most definitely right that the show was ahead of its time. I'm amazed they actually pulled it off, but deeply grateful. As for fan fiction, all I meant (it might have been kind of messed up, like I said I was running on no sleep for a few days) was that although plot lines and stuff may be the author's, the characters were still created by other people. Not that I give a damn, really. I'm quite ill and unable to work or even move very much, and if it weren't for fan fiction I am absolutely positive that I'd be totally batshit insane by now. God, could you imagine? I don't have words for how absolutely horrible that would be - at least in my opinion. I'm totally an addict, but hey, it's better than drugs right? Yeah well, I'm rambling again but anyway sorry I totally misunderstood you before, I feel kind of idiotic about it now but whatever. Nobody's perfect, right? I'm sorry, I'm not making fun, but I read this and my first thought was ARE YOU SERIOUS!?! 50 Shades of Grey is find/replace Twilight fanfic, and Mortal Instruments was once Draco/Ginny fanfic posted at...Fiction Alley, I think. So, really, you could say that these two authors are making money off of characters that were co-opted from other authors/sources, yes?

Damn, that's a really good point. People shouldn't do that, I really think that is just going too far. As far as I'm concerned that's plagerism which is something I really hate. I'm a writer myself although I tend to get too descriptive, hardly ever manage to finish anything, often make my characters much too powerful, and can't seem to stop myself from obsessively editing my stuff while I'm trying to write even though I know I'd have more success completing stuff if I finished a rough draft and then edit. I write - or try to write - fan fiction and original stuff both. Fan fiction is of course easier because the author has a ready made foundation, but turning a fan fiction into a novel and publishing it, making money off it - that is so beyond wrong. Ugh, some people are just assholes. I love fan fiction, am seriously addicted to it actually, but making money off of it by changing some names and stuff - that really pisses me off. I didn't know people did that! I don't understand how a writer can steal from a fellow writer, whether they are stealing characters or plot lines or whatever. Well, I'm sure karma will take care of them since I doubt that any authorites would know about it which is too bad. I'm not a fan of most police because most of those that I've met which has unfortunately been quite a lot have serious superiority complexes and abuse their power. I was once arrested in my drinking days - and I definitely deserved to be arrested, I was in a blackout and had freaked and hurt people, which is why I do not drink anymore - and my mother was there. I woke up in jail with absolutely no clue what had happened and couldn't get in touch with my family because the call fee was too expensive. Anyway, I was literally black and blue from head to toe. I figured it had happened when I'd been hurting people but when I got home and Mom saw me she was totally shocked. She said I hadn't been so injured when she last saw me as I was being put in the cop car, so I know the police did it. I have no idea why they did it but I really lost any respect I had for law enforcement officers after that unless they happened to actually be decent people which is rare. So anyway I normally wouldn't wish the cops on anyone, but people who steal other peoples work deserve to be arrested. That's just my opinion, of course, and I'm sure not everyone will agree, but that's how I feel about it.

I should have clarified that I mean "hobby" authors on the internet like us who just post their stories on LJ's and other places online without intending to make money out of it. It's not that the majority of authors even have that option in the first place but I wasn't denying it.

Let me rephrase this: As long as people don't intend to make money out of it (or claim for something to be original which isn't their own), I personally don't have any copyright issues with fan fiction.

Exactly. The only other types of fan fiction I don't agree with (and I haven't really seen a lot of this) is the stuff people do in fandoms of which the true creators have made it clear that they don't want people writing fan fic about their stuff. Like ... I think it was Anne Rice? Something like that, anyway. I wasn't really a fan anyway.
