Canon question re Brian's references to God

I have read a few fics by different writers who have the gang, mostly Brian, saying 'Thank the gods.' It started me wondering if that was canon for Brian to refer to multiple gods. I know it's not canon for Ted because of the speech he gave Emmett at the Seen the Light meeting (one of my favorite scenes) and I'm certain it's not canon for Michael or Emmett either. So, did I miss something said by Brian?

ETA: Seems to be non-canon. Thanks for all the help. You guys are the best! :)

Ep. 209 takes Brian through a lot of "revelations" regarding God and how he was raised. He refers to one God in the bar, and refers to Jesus needing to "lay off the Slim Fast" when in church.

After his cancer treatment when his mother comes to visit him at Kinnetik and he goes to seek Justin out at Babylon later, he also says "Let's just say that GOD gave me another (or second chance, I forgot which one), and I don't want to blow it." He also utters the word "God!" right after Justin is lying on the concrete after being bashed and he's kneeling over him, so I don't think he EVER referred to more than one.

You're welcome; glad that I could help. I think I've been watching way too many of those eps lately - LOL!

In the hospital after the bombing, Deb and Brian are together in the chapel. She asks
God to save Michael and then asks Brian if he wants to say a prayer. He says, "No,"
but then he adds, "You (God) better fucking listen to her."

Non-canon ~ in Moonshadow Tribe ~ Thyme & Sabina's Fic ~Sunshine Stories ~ Brian's consistently uses the phrase "Thank the Gods".
This is just for reference.

It's very likely that a few other writers subconsciously (or as homage) co-opted the phrase from Sunshine Stories.

He often says "Christ!" though, instead of "Shit!" or whatever. XD

Most people, regardless of religious affiliation, blaspheme. At the same time, authors tend to attribute a 'gods' qualifier to those that aren't particularly religious. The funny thing is, in the Harry Potter books, I think it was Goblet Of Fire, JK Rowling has Ron Weasley say 'Jesus', which tossed me so far out of the book at the time. It was so out of character for someone who knows little of the Muggle world, although Hermione, Harry, Seamus or Dean saying it would have made sense.

That said, Brian and the rest often say God or Christ or Jesus. Especially Emmett.
