I am looking for an old story I read a long time ago...I think it was from ATP, but I can't find it there. Maybe I am mixing two stories up?
It's post-Ethan. Justin and Daphne have a fall out and he takes off, bags packed, to his mother's, only to find out that she has reunited with his father and they are moving to (Nevada maybe?) with Molly to start a new life.
Depressed, Justin is sitting in the rain at a bus stop when he sees an eldery man struggling to put some boxes in a car while keeping his umbrella up. Justin runs over to help him, and the man convinces him to help him carry the boxes up the stairs to his house. Once at the house, Justin is introduced to the man's partner. Justin learns that the man is dying of cancer and is scared for his partner because the state of pennslyvania doesn't recognize same sex couples. They hire Justin to be the man's son in return to ensuring that his partner get the money after his death. They end up moving to New York for some radical surgery, but he ends up dying anyways. It was a really sad scene and in it Justin tells him that he will always be his father.
Fast forward and Justin is a famous cartoonist for an underground cartoon show on Adult Swim, he bumps into Michael at Comicon and Michael ends up reuniting Brian and Justin together at the end.
Does anyone remember who wrote this? It was long! I checked Moonshadow's fics on MW, but it isn't one of hers.
