Yes, it is so be prepared. But it is an amazingly written story, made even more amazing by the fact that it's based on a young woman that the author knew who lost her life to cancer after a 4 year battle. So sad, but beautiful at the same time.

You liked this? I read it once. That was enough. I realize it was based on a real person, so it's Brian/Justin in name only. And it is the most depressing thing I've ever read, including Reaper Boy, which is more heart-breaking. Still...Remission isn't a fic that I rec, not without lots of caveats.

I did like it. But then I'm a glutton for sad and depressing things. I'm kinda weird that way :) I also think the characterization of both Brian and Justin was pretty accurate. I could see both characters behaving the way they did in the story. They may not be 100% spot on, but honesty they're much better than a lot of other fics I've read. I also liked getting to learn about Lisa's brave struggles with cancer, and I completely support the author using the fanfic medium as a way to share her story with a larger audience and maybe work through some of their own grief as well. But yes, definitely rec with caveats because it is not for the faint of heart.

I hate and avoid death fics, but I LOVE Reaper Boy. I re-read it about once a year, and cry my eyes out.

(Maybe one reason I like it is because I loved the DEAD LIKE ME tv show.)

I don't mind Reaper Boy so much as a death fic, because it still - in my mind, anyway - has a happy ending :) But it's a little too much Justin/other throughout for me to read it often. I'm a wuss about them with other people much more than I am about death, lol.

Though the only death fic I'll ever really happily reread is suzvoy's Better Now.

And mclachlan is a genius but I am NEVER reading Counting Blue Cars again. That fucked me up for days.

You're right, Reaper Boy does have a happy ending, in a strange sort of way. It's a stretch, but yeah, I'll go along with that.

I've started two other death fics that did NOT have a warning, and stopped reading the moment it became clear what was up. I'm almost tempted to read Better Now, since you loved it so much and since I've enjoyed other Suzvoy stories, but I think I need more convincing!

Well, lol, it's very short? No, seriously, Justin is dead (from the bashing) from the very start of the fic, so no unexpected shocks. He visits Brian, and they manage to be together in their own way.

Sapphire gave him prostate cancer, which I thought raised some interesting issues (and she did research, too.)

This is actually a sequel to Alright, where Justin is diagnosed with testicular cancer. Sapphire also wrote another Justin cancer story too. All of which can be found here;
