Stories by Knittedshadow

Knittedshadow's journal is f-locked and I've been waiting after commenting, but I haven't been friended back yet and it has been awhile. I was wondering if anyone has copies of her stories, especially the deaf story. Although I do want to read all of her stories, I love disability stories.

Please and thank you.

I think that right there is a million dollar question because you'll never know unless you can still contact the author to ask them. I know there's several that disappeared, left the fandom, lost fanfic when other websites were shut down, deleted their journals, etc.

It's hard when others who recently entered the fandom or even possibly read it the first time to come back to read it later on suddenly aren't able to. It becomes an issue of what 'is okay' and I think the similar question was brought up when someone wanted to make a community dedicated to completing abandoned fics. (Because where exactly is the fine line drawn of going too far?)

*shrugs* While I'll admit that this is a long way of saying I'm not sure what to tell you, I want you to realize it's a question that has been brought up time and time again in a variety of fandoms and still there area always those on one side of the debate vs. the other.

Sadly though, like all things even things people have requested to not be shared are still uploaded on a variety of websites. (Just like people uploading movies, music, etc.)

I at least think this community is great in the fact that if there is fanfic uploaded that the author doesn't want, it is removed. Really, that's all they can do.

It's my first fandom, therefore my experience is limited. In the first months I saved like a maniac without even thinking about someone could leave or so. I really couldn't believe that the internet world hosted so many brilliant writers and "all were there in my computer". It was way before I even knew that a fandom exists.
But over the time I saw some leaving, for other fandoms or for good, and I became sad. And when the old queer eyes site didn't work anymore, I really felt a loss for us all. I really wouldn't mind to ask the writers, then we would be in the safe side but I know that some don't respond anymore (when I finally became brave enough to write in English, I contacted some from the older writers to just say thank you and only a few answered).
Hm. I know there is no real answer coming here but I really had to get this out. Because: even when there certainly is some misuse, I made the experience that many here are very carefully about sharing esp. f-locked fics, more that it would be expected. That's a thing I really like here.
I hope that a few more writers see this post and will give us their official permission to share stories - that would be the best, right? LOL
Thanks for your answer!!!!
Pet

I think I saw it become more of a question from those with f-locked only journals when a lot of authors realized that more people were saving their work in order to read them on e-readers now instead of online. I'll admit that the majority of my reading now is done strictly on my nook because it's so much easier on my eyes! (I have to use the computer a lot, so having that break is great.)

I know a few authors even uploaded copies of their files in e-reader formats, though for some reason they were removed with other fics from the 4shared account. I believe the mods here were looking into starting another account that they can monitor better, though I'm not sure where they are in that process.

I think you lucked out if this is your first fandom. :) I wish my older fandoms were as organized about searching for lost fics as this one is. A few others came close, but didn't have the following that [livejournal.com profile] getithere does on the ability of getting answers to questions. Sadly, I've been through a lot of fandoms over the years and seen a lot of fanfics taken down for a variety of reasons. (I knew several authors that once they jumped fandom, they would delete anything that linked them to the old one.)

I agree. The fandom is great, and this community is incredible. All the more reason to show respect. And when a writer locks his/her journal, he or she has a reason to do it, and we can take it or leave it. The mods here are doing a very fine job, you're so right.
In the case of the question of the OP, I decided to ask the author.
What you said about the ereader: I second this. Before I bought my first iPad, I had no idea....but once I noticed how easier it is to read here, I barely go back to the computer.

Which is why I said it was a question that was impossible to answer because there are so many variables involved. In this case, if the author is still active and around then contacting would be the best option, but sometimes that's not the case.

I haven't read anything by this author before, but I'll admit to being curious now.
