[identity profile] kinneynovotny.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] getithere
Hi! I'm new. I've looked through tags and memories of what I thought may have these sorts of stories with no real luck. Anyway, I am wondering if there are any stories where Justin seems to get like neglected by the family. I've been having dreams about stuff like this, like Justin was the one to get the cancer and he tries to tell everyone, but they keep blowing him off until he finally just explodes in anger at the all and it all comes out. I know, weird right? Anyway, I really hope there are stories like this. I would rather them be COMPLETE and not where I have to download them, thank you.

Edit: A lot of you have made some good points. I can't protect my work 100%, even with everything f-locked. So, I've unlocked What I've posted so far. It's not much, but everything is public now.

You may want to post links to your fics at [livejournal.com profile] qaf_fiction or [livejournal.com profile] bjfic.

Except that she wants to lock her stories.

From [livejournal.com profile] bjfic's rules:

If you are linking to fic on your journal, make sure the post is PUBLIC. People should not have to f-list your journal to read fics highlighted here.

That's why I stopped posting there. :)

that is not for me to get friends, only to protect my work

I understand the desire to protect your work, but can I ask a few questions? Are you stating that you'll only friend people who friend you first? Do you plan on offering people a "sample" if you will of your work so they can decide whether they want to add you to their list or not? Do they have to add you in order to read your work or are you willing to friend them if they ask?

That sounds pretty reasonable, and hopefully you'll provide a header of some sort to let your audience know what you are writing about, pairings, etc. (Even on a master list, a summary is a gem.)

Like the person below me, I'm not sure what your stories would be about, and your journal offers no insight to that either. My question stemmed from the fact that I personally, won't be adding anyone to my f-list any time in the near future, but I know there are others that don't like adding a large variety of people in order to keep their f-list manageable.

Well, when you are better prepared, it would be valuable to post something on either of the two communities listed above. Even though bjfic wants unlocked fic it can give you a reader ship even if you simply post drabbles/one-shots to it. (And lock your longer stories if you so desire.)

I just...I'm sorry, I have issues with f-locked fic and people's idea that it's "safe" and protected. Sadly, no it's not always. You never truly know who the "trolls" are on your f-list when you friend everyone and who is simply copy/pasting and uploading elsewhere. I had an issue with a writer who locked down her journal completely (even stories that were public) then she thought that made her safe and wouldn't allow me to see her work.

She has no idea how many people still try to send me any of her posts. =/ I had to shut off PMs for the longest time because it was silly the sort of people that were doing it, and yet I was the bad guy. :)

Just thought I'd let you know that, it's a nice idea in theory...not always in practice.

Can I ask a question...???

Your user name of: - kinneynovotny -

Does that mean you are a fan of Brian/Michael pairings?????

FYI, I think some people are going to assume you're a Brian/Michael shipper. I did. You could lose some people that way, so like someone else said, I'd put up a friending banner and make it clear that you're not. Actually, I'd post it in a few places!

Oh!!! That is an very important question. Plus I was going to comment that since you appear to be a new writer with nothing available to sample it will be harder to build up a readership. As a reader I would like something to sample like a chapter or two to see if I like the story and also to check out your writing in general.

My next question is strictly out of curiosity... As I reader I don't understand the comment you made that your fics are f-locked to protect your work. Protect it from what? Family, friends, coworkers. That I think I can understand. But the comment protect your work doesn't come across to me as hiding it from people you don't want to know you write but something else and I don't understand that especially since you said you were looking for somewhere to share your stories.

My curiosity is because other than wanting to hide writing/stories from the people in your real life I don't understand the f-locking fan fiction. Of course I'm saying that from a readers viewpoint not a writers.

That's all just wondering....

Hi :)

The way I generally think about it is, the more public I make my stories, the more witnesses (so to speak) I have who know and can verify my stories as mine, or who could let me know if one actually got stolen and posted as someone else's. Also, I feel like someone is less likely to attempt to steal public fics because they'll figure more people have already read them. *shrugs*

I only have one f-locked fic currently, and that's more for reasons of graphic content, verifying age, what have you. But now I may have talked myself into unlocking it, lol.

You could make your journal "adult" or "adult content" (however Livejournal calls it). On mine, if someone wasn't logged in they have to agree with viewing content that would be considered adult. Sort of like those fanfiction websites that make you read verifying you are of age and don't hold the person accountable because you did agree to read it, blah blah blah. If they are logged in, they bypass that mess.

It's a thought. :)

Pretty sure mine's already set up like that, now that you mention it :)

I think at one point I had all my RPS f-locked. Then I unlocked more and more of it until it was only the one story left, which just seems kind of arbitrary now, lol.

Just figured that might take that worry off if that was what you were afraid of. ;)

I didn't realize you wrote that much! (I just went and looked at your master list and there's a lot that I don't recall ever seeing, but it could have been before my "time" in the fandom.) I remember reading Inviting the Fire and loving it if that's any consolation. D: I fail at commenting 3/4ths of the time.

It does look like a lot when it's all listed like that! Lol, especially all the li'l drabbles, which I used to post in bunches.

Thanks :):)

I've never flocked any fic I've written. The point was so that people would read them, otherwise, why bother? I have had two stories appropriated a long time ago (HP fics), and someone who knew me and knew they were mine alerted me. I still didn't take them down. Besides, I have my stuff at so many different archives that I have no idea where they all are. lol

Maybe I originally f-locked them so that Gale and Randy couldn't read them? ;-b LOL

Yeah, I totally agree with you. What you said about the HP-appropriating proves to me that my way of thinking is correct.

Why are you worrying so? It will keep you from writing anything..
Very few people steal. We will all be pleased to hear a new voice.
Like, show us what you got, kiddo..
Eagerly awaiting your stories...
