I'm searching for a story featuring Gus. He is about 17 and is staying with Brian and Justin after a fight with Mel and Linds. They protested after Gus brought a boy home and they didn't want him to 'corrupt' JR. The story was in 2 parts and I think that it started with Mel coming into Brian's office and throwing a bag of Gus' clothing on to the table. At one stage too Brian and Justin confront the girls and tell them that because Gus isn't living with them any more they should now pay rent.
I remember that the house that the girls was living in actually belongs to Gus.
Hope that this rambling request makes sense to someone.

Found thanks to Mysid. The link is in the comments.

I know the series you mean, but I can't remember title or author. (The series is bookmarked on another computer.) But maybe this will help:

I think this is the series in which Lindsay and Mel split up after moving to Canada, and in the resulting custody fight, it turns out that Brian's relinquishing of his parental rights was never properly filed with the court. Brian and Justin sell Britin and buy a smaller house from an elderly man whose glass-artist partner has died. The series is still ongoing and was recently updated. The part you want is a "future fic" from the same universe.

Found it!

If you read "homecoming" first the set up to "Leaving Home" is much more indepth.

I love any excuse to (re)read Reverberations and Homecoming, but I must say that Leaving Home works well as a stand-alone. (Just in case anyone reads this post and is the mood for a quick read or for a teenage-Gus fic.)

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] debv3.
