Eli and Monty/ "Stepford Fags"

I am just re-watching 504. IMHO, this dinner party is maybe the only scene in QAF that seriously needs a rewrite. It always makes me so angry that Justin doesn't support Brian here, not only because of the marriage-kids-monogamy thing, but also because both of the "Stepford Fags" act so self-satisfied, but okay, that's how the story goes. And instead of speaking his own mind, Justin acts as if he is ashamed of his lover ,that's so immature - in Brian's place, I would have been sooooooo pissed. (And don't you agree that Brian's remark about the gardening was hilarious? Fucking hypocrites!)

However, did anyone ever write a Brian-Justin story that either is a rewrite of this scene or a scene that alludes to it? Maybe Brian and Justin fighting about this afterwards? Or they are just talking about it later? (There is nothing to be found in the Gapfiller list, but it can also happen much later)

I would also love to read satirical pieces with Brian teasing Eli and Monty in it. Or maybe Brian and Justin together this time. I think Eli and Monty are really lovely to hate make fun of.

Justin has never been embarrassed by anything that Brian says. Come on, this is Justin, who told a shrink, in front of his mom, that he liked dick! And then told a Hollywood producer that "getting your butt fucked is one of the privileges of being gay"! He doesn't have a modest bone in his body. The only reason I think he didn't say more at Michael's house was that Brian already had, and Justin was mulling over what had been said.

Also, the only time Justin has ever gasped "Brian!" is when they were having sex.

But that is exactly what makes him so shockingly OOC in that scene! But whatever, I guess there are different ways to look at that scene, and that's fine. I just wanted to point out that I hate the scene how it is.

The problem with a lot of S5 was that they tried to cram too much into the last season. The biggest faux-pas was including Rosie O'Donnell, who did not further storyline at all. Taking her scenes out would have given them time and space to show us the divide growing between Brian and Justin. Mostly, it was Justin growing up and Brian stuck in club-boy/S1 mode. Why they did that is anyone's guess, but it was really strange and wtf-ish to see Brian go from S4's epiphanies to S5's regression to S1's "don't believe in love, believe in fucking" behavior. So not only was Justin OOC at times in S5, Brian was even more so. That's why 507 is probably my favorite episode of the season. Justin had had enough and told him so, and Michael slammed it home. When the two people that love you most tell you you're an asshole to your face at the same time, the lights have to come on.

Yeah. One or two episodes more wouldn't have hurt either. But we won't change that and it gives us the urge to write fanfic about it ever after just to make it better...;o)

season five was about crossroads,and its not only brian that regressed all the characters did.we have micheal who turned into micheal of the dr dav days feeling his farmily and friend were not good enough for his new life even deb called him on it.we have justin who droped out of college to go make a movie in LA ,the movie was droped he comes back home he has no job no college degree,he is not sure what he want to do about his carrier and when daphene asks him about having a baby of his own he makes it seam like the only reason is bacause of brian,and i was like really you are 22 have no job and the only reason you think of for not having a baby at this time is bacause your boyfriend as std?.and i think because of all this he decided to focus on brian because its easier to focus on what is wrong with other people and it din't help that brian was in full walls up defensive mode.and i dont think brian regressed ,brian was reacting to the judgement that is totally IC ,its brian showing micheal and justin i dint give a F... what anyone think acting like he does not care what they think of him,denial and pain management,all things brian.

I'm a bit confused by your comment. For the most part, I disagree.

Brian did regress, yes, and Michael did revert back to Dr Dave mode, but the rest of the characters didn't. Mel and Linds were broken before S5. Ted has always had feelings of inadequacy, and Emmett did what Emmett always does, go through life as it is.

Justin didn't have a degree, but what difference did that make? He said he was going to take his time and look around, see what his options were. He also continued to work on his art, which if you recall, netted him a place in the Emerging Artists show. I don't see that as a waste of time.

Regarding the baby, he said he might like one, he didn't say when (though I believe he said somedaay). the point was that Justin was ready for commitment, stability, which he'd hadn't had since his dad kicked him out. Justin lives out of his duffle bag. Wanting stability with the man he loved, how is that wrong or OOC? Brian had regressed beyond S1. He states quite plainly why he lost Justin, and Michael:

My mother was a frigid bitch. My father was an abusive drunk. They had a hateful marriage, which is probably why I am unwilling or unable to form a committed long-term relationship of my own. The fact that I drink like a fish, abuse drugs, and have more or less redefined promiscuity doesn't help, much. As a result, I've lost the two people in my life that mean most to me.

This is the most insightful and profound statement that Brian ever made. This is Brian owning his shit. And after 5 years, it's about time, too.
