I don't remember if Justin got an offer for a gallery in New York through Linds or if she just happened to agree with it - but he's got an offer. He's only gone for a little while (or not at all, I'm not sure) and when Linds finds out that he isn't in New York she goes on a rant about his big chance etc. Justin comes back with the facts of the contract that he was offered - it was basically screwing him over. He'd paint and paint with no guarantee of a show and I believe no rights to the work he did during the contract time. Basically he's chewing out Linds for pushing such a bad deal on him.

It could be 'Homecoming' by Wren, the sequel to 'Reverberations':

The part about the shitty contract is in chapter 16

Both of Wren's future fictions are really great and ongoing. She isn't afraid to point fingers, often using a protective Justin to set things right. Both series are well worth following.

There's also a similar scene in Sapphire's Finding Utopia seies, where Justin gets some sort of offer and turns it down. Lindsay finds out and then basically reams him out in front of the whole family. Here is the link: Start with Atavism and then read the sequel You is for Utopia.
