Basically I agree. At the same time, if a writer is writing fanfic, and posts it in an open forum, they can't lay claim to it. You can't stop someone from copying it. That said, though, I prefer to email the author and ask if it's possible to get a hardcopy straight from them. Most are very gracious about this. Plus, I'm brazen like that. I'd email the Pope if he had fic I wanted. lol
Still, I do believe that the wishes of the author should always be honoured. I gotta tell you though, people that delete or remove their fics in a GBCW snit piss me off. I know of a few that went from fanfic to published work, and deleted their journals to avoid hassle. In those cases, though, they had their fanfic posted to outside archives that were harder to link back to, so at least it was still available. But deleting it in a "taking my toys and going home" fashion...grrrrr.
