Well, I got into it after reading Rory's [livejournal.com profile] galeandrandy mpreg.

I thought it was weird at first but then it fascinated me. I presonally enjoy putting the men into these situations like pregnancy as it gives so much more scope in the kind of storyline that you can produce.

I mean, we write fiction, it is fictitious... People can write BJ as werewolves/pirates/vampires, etc. and there is nothing said about it, you know?

I actually seriously don't understand the taboo that surrounds mpreg. The characters are fictional also, it's not like we write RPS mpreg or that as we know it doesn't happen in rl.

It's just something that you an venture into because as many writers know, most storylines have been explored with BJ and the other QaF characters, or just fictional characters in general. So it's always nice to have something to explore that hasn't been done to extremes.

I love writing mpreg and non-mpreg, it's not that normal stories don't give me something, I just enjoy all genres. :) Except death!fic :(

Now, that's just my opinion, I'm not speaking for all mpreg writers as I have only written about three mpregs but maybe others will clear up their fascination for you too.

:D

but those are actually mainstream inventions, and there's been so much said and written about werewolves and vampires, they've been analyzed from every psychological angle and we treat them as part of our cultural reality. Mpreg, on the other hand... it's still kind of... far-fetched. Especially that vampires and werewolves originate from folklore, but mpreg... doesn't :)

I wouldn't call that 'taboo'. I think it's mostly that we're here for man on man action. We're fascinated with male homosexual relationships and part of their uniqueness is lack of kid factor, that they are free at all time. That they are different from heterosexual relationships. And, as far as I know, male mentality is different from female in terms of maternity, which I find a big part of their charm. We want to read about men - and in qaf they're mostly promiscuous, untied men - and when you put them into pregnancy and then bringing up babies... you're crossing too far into the hetero territory. IMHO. If we wanted to read those kinds of plotlines, I'm sure most of us have enough hetero fandoms to keep us stocked on pregnancy fanfic for a lifetime.

It's not that I don't completely understand the joys some people find in mpreg ;) It's just that I find them in contradiction to what I like in my qaf. Hence the fascination with what draws you to them.

It's just something that you an venture into because as many writers know, most storylines have been explored with BJ and the other QaF characters, or just fictional characters in general. So it's always nice to have something to explore that hasn't been done to extremes.
I don't agree with you, but then again, I'm anal. And partly because for me, the actual premise is secondary. I, for one, could read high school AUs till I puke, and then some more. I don't think the limited amount of possible plotlines is the end, because what matters more to me is character development, dialogue mastery, random gems of humor, etc. I have read very few mpreg fics, but quite a lot of every other genre, and you know what? There are thousands of potentially good plotlines wasted by bad authors, the rush to move on to the next plot bunny, underdeveloped characters, relying on cliches, etc. I can't count how many times upon finishing a fic I wished someone picked it, took the general plotline and rewrote it properly, because It could have been sooo good... but alas, was painful to read. So, anyway, that was my stock tl;dr about the woes of wasted plotlines and high expectations, sorry for the ramble P:

Thanks for reading (I hope) and taking time to explain the phenomenon. I really appreciate it. I guess I'll stick to my over-the-hill club boys and naughty teenagers bandwagon for now. But, you have fun on yours! :D
