Good news and bad news.  Sort of found it - still can't read it.  astroella and dresden_doll_01 had it right.  It is Crisis by Jane2005.  flamencanyc sorry but Trivial Pursuit is on my hard drive and in that story Brian is the one that gets in a plane crash.

Crisis is listed on this website  http://queerasfolk.wired-hub.net/b_j_fanfic.html the link takes you to BJ FanFic.net but the story isn't available there.  I looked on LiveJournal and I found Chapter 2 but I can't get it to open for me.  Anyone out there have it?
