Mod Post: Vamphile

It is with a heavy heart that I post the news that [livejournal.com profile] epicallytired, aka Vamphile passed away this weekend. I don't have any details, and just heard about it today.

I'd like to use this post, if I may, for our community to reminisce about our favorite fics of hers, or any memories you have. I'll start with one of my favorite lines for her fic, Keeping It Together.

They were finally alone for a few minutes. Aaron had stopped in to make sure they were okay and was waiting for Brian in the lounge. The nurses had all cleared out for the moment. It was just the two of them.

“This is it.”

Brian nodded.

“You okay?”

“Not me having this done.”

“I’m okay.”

“Okay.”

“You know I love you right?”

“Cut it out.”

“Brian.”

“No. No goodbyes. I’ll see you in a couple of hours.”

“But if you don’t…

Justin was staring at him and saw that there were tears in his eyes. He wanted to change the topic but he couldn’t. He had to say this. “Do me a favor?”

Brian nodded.

“If I don’t. Seriously. If something goes wrong. I need you to do this again.”

“Do what?”

“This. Love. Let someone love you.”

“Fuck you.”

“I mean it Brian.”

“So do I. Fuck you.”

“But if I’m not here.”

“Then that’s it, but you keep talking like this and I’m calling the whole fucking thing off. I’ll see you in a couple of hours. You don’t believe that, they’re not even allowed to start.”

“I know. I’ll be fine. I know that. I just need to hear you promise.”

“Then we’re going home now.”

“Brian.”

”I’m not gonna start lying to you now. You want me to promise I’ll put myself through this again. Bullshit. Once. You. So I’ll see you in a couple of hours.”

“Okay.”

“Justin.”

“Yeah?”

“I do love you. Can’t love anyone else. Don’t ask me to.”

“Okay.”

The nurses came in and were about to inject something into the IV. “Wait.”

They looked up at Brian. He leaned down and gently brushed his lips against Justin’s. “Couple of hours. Okay?”

“Later.”

Brian smiled a little. “Later.”

Later, Vamp. We love you.

It's hard to believe this has happened to a lovely person. Her stories will be etched in my mind forever. I'll send Angeltweety to her to keep her company.

RIP sweet lady.

This is the worst way for us to lose such a talented writer. My heart goes out to all who loved her, especially family and close friends. She has left behind a legacy for us that will live on in her words. Rest in Peace, dear lady. Grammy

So sad to hear. Her Keeping series was one of the first stories I read when I discovered QAF a few years ago. I really love how she wrote the B/J relationship and I always laughed whenever Justin called Aaron a half-breed.

I included this particular series on my LJ list of recs and just refreshed my memory on the word count for each story -- she wrote over 400,000 words for the Keeping series alone. I am so impressed by not only the scope of her work but by the depth of her work as well.

This really is a sad day for the fandom. My thoughts are with her family and friends.

As others have said...

Her Keeping Series was the first fan fiction I ever read & she got me hooked.

So sorry to hear of her passing. She will truly be missed!

So sad!. I loved her fics.

I am so very sorry to read this post. Aside from a few ‘comment exchanges’, I didn’t know Vamphile, but I knew her work. And it was amazing. I’ve read so many of her stories two, three or four times over. Truly brilliant writer. I know her stories will remain favorites in the QAF-fic world. My condolences to her friends and family.

(Thank you, Red, for letting us know)

RIP. Will re-read her stories to keep her memories alive.

Damn. I am so sad. It is hard for me to believe. Too young and so unhappy. I hope she finds the peace she was always seeking. And that someone is loving her dogs the way she did.

I am so very sorry to read this. My deepest sympathies to her family and friends.

To Vamphile, thank you for countless hours of enjoyment. Like many others, yours were some of the first stories I encountered when I found QAF. They helped add layers of depth and humanity to characters I already thought were pretty perfect. The ability to do that is a gift, and I am grateful you shared yours with us. Your stories will live on.

Later.

Just 1 quick example of how gracious she could be toward other authors... You'll find this among the 1st few comments after the 3k word "Tell Me Again (http://qaf-anon.livejournal.com/6645.html)" by lucononuro (http://lucononuro.livejournal.com/) contest entry. (the authors, their fics still to be voted on, were as yet unknown to the comment posters)

[livejournal.com profile] epicallytired
"this is brilliant
'I’ve gone from wanting to kill him to wanting to heal him in ten minutes. I may not survive this man.'
and the rest of it...i have twenty four chapters and counting of a story that is trying to get across what you did in a couple of paragraphs and for that i will worship you and never forgive you."

2 weeks later, the authors revealed, lucononuro (http://lucononuro.livejournal.com/) replied, "I have cut this out and will carry it in my wallet - that's how much I appreciated it."

Does anyone have another link to Keeping it Together? I can't load it from the one given

[identity profile] nightvision55.livejournal.com 2014-02-12 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Only seems to be the first one, Brother's Keeper. Unless it's me being stupid ...

That is such sad news, she was an incredible writer. It's such a shame we will never hear from her again or read new material. She was a huge asset to the fandom and I know we will miss her very much. Thankyou for sharing your brilliant work with us over the years, Vamphile xo

I am sp sorry to hear this! :( "Blue Ecstasy" was one of my all-time favourite QAF fics and even though Vamphile moved on to another fandom, I never stopped hoping that she would complete the sequel "Blue Monday" one day. May she rest in peace!

[identity profile] lexa4227.livejournal.com 2014-02-13 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
So sad.:(

Rest in peace Vamphile.

your wonderful stories will be read by many more future qaf fans. Thank you.

[identity profile] soulmatejunkee.livejournal.com 2014-02-13 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
So sorry to read that.

"Whore in a hoody" and "The Keepers Series" will always have a special place in my heart.

Rest in Peace.

Yep, that's how I found it. But when I skimmed down to find KIT, there only seemed to be Brother's Keeper. Unless I'm going blind, of course, which is quite possible ...
