Gaedhal's fics

Mods, I apologise if this is an inappropriate post: please delete it if I'm stepping over any lines.

I've been following Gaedhal's latest QT stream, Coup de Foudre, only guess what? It looks like it may not be completed because of all the hostile comments the author's been getting because - get this - people don't like it being a B/J story! They're all sick of Justin, apparently, and Gaedhal's beginning to wonder if it's worth going on in the fandom if tastes have now swung so far that nobody wants to read anything B/J centred.

I don't want to kick off any Brian v Justin arguments, only to say that if you've enjoyed Gaedhal's wonderful fics then perhaps you could express your appreciation before we lose another great author from the fandom.

Sorry again if I shouldn't have commented on this here.

When I watched the QAF DVD's, I sped through any part that did not include Brian and Justin. I may prefer one over the other but it doesn’t diminish my enjoyment of seeing or reading the two of them together.

There are stories I don’t care to read for one reason or another. Gaedhal is an excellent writer. His Angel Stream is one of my favorites. I have not been following Coup de Foudre because I thought it wasn’t B/J centered enough. It just goes to show that you cannot please everyone; therefore, you should write for yourself.

I cannot understand hate mail. If you don’t like -- don’t read or better yet, write your own. I’ve seen hateful comments on some of the best fics out there. There doesn’t seem to be a way of avoiding it. In the meantime, I’ll have to take a look at the story again. Maybe I didn’t give it a chance.

Thank you for bringing up this issue. In my opinion, if we lose Brian with Justin, we don’t have a reason for the fandom.

Sandra :) 

Wait, what, you mean so many people hate b/j fanfic so much that made so many hateful comment that Gaedhal consider quitting? What????

I mean, if they don't like B/J fanfic, what the point of reading it in the first place???? The whole fandom pretty much IS B/J fanfic.

And seriously, I know there's Brian's haters and Justin's haters out there, but are they even more than BJ fans??? What universal are we living?

Just to say that we are working out a lot of issues in the LJ about the story,
with everyone getting a chance to weigh in and/or clarify their views. This
is all to the good, because it helps me to understand the reaction to the
fic, which I knew would be controversial when I began it.

For the record, the fic WILL continue. My freak out is at an end and
my readers have, as usual, shown great patience in talking me down
from the ledge.

Thanks.

People don't like B/J fic anymore?! Whaaaat?! There are some series that I simply avoid due to the OOC portrayal of Justin. That boy put up with way more crap in a relationship than I would have, especially at such a young age, so I don't understand why he gets so much hate. I haven't read this particular series, mainly because a lot of the fics within that verse seem very Brian, Brian/Other centered which is just not my thing, but that's ridiculous that the author is getting hate because it's a b/j fic. Perhaps it's the way Justin is being portrayed that is bothering people? That's usually when I stop reading certain fics.

I don't know, I haven't read much b/j fic in the last year mainly because the way the series ended STILL upsets me to this day. And I discovered the wonders of Kurt Hummel, so I've been pretty occupied with the Glee fandom, even though it's awful, and filled with crazy shippers who bully anyone who doesn't like Klaine or Finchel, heh. Been thinking about coming back to the B/J fandom because I thought there would be less drama by now...guess not, boo.

P.S. Nightvision, you are a writer that regularly hooks me in.
Thanks to you too.

OK, first off... there's more to Queer Theories???? Where?
This past month I just did a marathon read of the entire series.

Well, for me it's all about Justin, and then BrianandJustin. If there's too much Brian-only or Brian-other centered stuff I just skim on through. I certainly don't expect anyone to stop writing it! I self edit!

The only Fics I really don't like are the real "Anti-" Fics. I enjoy all the characters from QAF and making any one of them the evil villain in a story is about the only thing that turns me off.

So glad to read that Gaedhal will continue writing her latest story. I originally thought it was not going to be Brian and Justin and was probably not going to read it. But Gaedhal said is was going to be a long rocky ride, which is fine, but was definitely B/J. I was good. But the Justin hate upset me. So Nightvision, when you stood up for Justin,
I silently (hangs head in shame I too should have spoke up) applauded you and marathoned
your writing this weekend too!
Still reading BoaW. Love it.

ARRRRGH! My e-reader overheated while I was going through another marathon and doing my spring cleaning. I now have to go to the computer on my breaks. At any rate, I couldn't pass up the following statements:

"A Brian without his Justin is like a Romeo without his Juliet..."

"Brian and Justin compliment each other because of their differences, not despite them."

That is what I love about the Brian and Justin together. It was the magic of mixing the two opposites -- the Yin to the Yang. My favorite stories are the ones that know how to capture that. I haven't found that magic in any other fandom.

Okay, now I'm going to go through my QAF withdrawals while I do boring housework.

Just one more voice letting you know how much your work is appreciated and enjoyed. You have an innate understanding of the dynamic that is Brian and Justin. I always know that I can trust you stories to be wonderful.

Although I commented to [livejournal.com profile] gaedhal, I wanted to day that this post should really be in your own journal. It's not a fic search, which is what this comm is for. While we do realize that many of the discussion comms here on LJ are gone, please try to keep your posts fic search-centric.
