Apology

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with B/J fic, but I just wanted to apologize to everyone on behalf of the ignorance of my home state (NC) that we were unable to defeat the amendment on the primary ballot which states that marriage should only be between one man & one woman.

Please know that I was one of the 34% that voted against the damn thing!!!

I, too, am from N.C. and have been bombarded by news coverage about this amendment.

But it is not your place to apologize...it is the place of everybody who feels its their place to tell others how to love and live. If someone wants to officially commit to their partner, why is that so offensive to anyone else. To change a bit of a Brian quote, "If I'm not marrying you, it's none of your business."

APOLOGY

I agree, you have nothing to apologize for. I have never understood how same sex marriage threatened traditional marriage. One has nothing to do with the other. Some same sex marriages last longer.
And as for affecting children, it can only be good to be raised in a loving home.

Maybe the next election will correct this wrong

Ellen

I'm from NC, too. *stops hanging head in shame long enough to wave*

Damn, was it only 34%? HRC had said 55 to 45, and I wondered why the news kept saying it passed "overwhelmingly," but the against percentages I'm hearing keep dwindling :(

Of course, it would be bad enough if the amendment just said marriage between a man and a woman is the only recognized marriage, but this delightful addition to our constitution says it's the only recognized union. Unmarried hetero couples, you are screwed as well. And your kids.

I feel sure that it will get overturned in time but pray we don't go bankrupt in the process.

President Obama's historic announcement in support of gay marriage was much needed today :)

some things i find quite ironic is that the rate of child abuse in same sex couple homes is 0% (you don't want to know what it is for heterosexual couples and single parent homes); in north carolina it's legal for a person to marry their own cousin; people won't bat an eyelash when crazy asians marry their computers, dead pets, dead girl/boyfriends, but a woman says she wants to marry another woman and it's like we've publicly burned a cross, a bible, and tried to take down the white house all at once.

people need to sit down and reevaluate their lives. seriously.

No need for you to apologize. As Brian would say "it's only time".

No apology necessary.

Hell, I live in South Texas. If I were to start apologizing for other people's narrow minds, I'd never again have time to take another breath.

Things HAVE changed and are still changing. When I was born, my parents were risking jail time (and, possibly, a lynch-mob) just to be together.

Today, here I sit, in a home that I own, in a culturally and racially diverse neighborhood, spending a rainy day reading gay-themed fic. Tonight, I'm having dinner with my lesbian niece and niece-in-law, in a public establishment on the 'good side' of town.

Take THAT, assorted bigots of the world! :-)

Sweetie, You have nothing to apologize for. It will happen. It's getting closer. Like the other people said, "fuck it." Hugs you, Annie

The time will come when beliefs will change. It was disappointing to hear the news, but it's good to read your post, not that you have anything to apologize for. I'm from CA, so I feel your pain. xo
