If you hate angst, don't read it lol.

Seriously I needed thearpy after reading this,,BUT it's a wonderful story, you just have to get past it, & believe in the BJ love.

And of course it's not Brian with Xavier, it's Justin,,truly I could of killed him, but with NO angst you have no story & it's so worth it when you get to the really good parts lol.

I've never forgotten Miss Miko's story, it tells their love/life from beginning to end,,I cry thinking about it,,just keep some scotch handy & if you smoke that will help to,,deep breaths are needed,,but hey knock yourself out,,if you need me I'm here,,Later SP.

But where to start reading? Fantasy stories only? Or the Gap fillers?

Oh my god, I randomly picked one to start with, to see if I'd like the writing, I picked Vee, and it scarred me for life. Only read it if you like seeing Brian suffer.
I didn't read any more of her stories for a long time, it upset me so much. Then I read a couple of her Swanson one stories, and I liked them, but I'm not reading any more of the ones with Xavier.

Extreme Angst!

I read this awhile ago, right when I was first introduced to this fandom (I only stumbled across QAF a year ago). First of all, read the stories in order if you want to avoid major confusion. Like someone else said, I randomly chose a story and was a) confused as Hell and b) traumatized. Secondly, not only is Justin paired with an original male character, but Brian is paired up with TWO original male characters, though one of the relationships is primarily a relationship Brian had before he met Justin (and is used to help explain his reticence regarding relationships/love). Third, I seriously wanted to smack both Brian and Justin up the side of the head, but (in my opinion) it's really Brian who suffers more in this series which just about killed me.

While there is MAJOR angst, I would recommend it. It's extremely LONG (which I LOVE) -- there are around 74 chapters of varying lengths and some of the chapters are 100-250 pages. In other words: Don't expect to read this in a few sittings. It also explores Brian and Justin's relationship from the first season all the way to when they're old(er) men -- I'm pretty sure Brian's 72 and Justin's 60 when the series concludes. It explores Justin's life at PIFA, giving him new friends he hangs out with; it explores Brian's job at Ryder and how he works up the corporate ladder; it's Gus-heavy as the 2 men help take care of Gus quite often; it involves an EXTENSIVE trial regarding Justin's bashing; it involves many vacations between the 2 men; birthdays, weddings, and other celebrations; new children that are born within the family; and extensive couple's therapy between B/J that was extremely interesting to read, though quite angst-ridden.

I didn't agree with all of the choices the author made, but I'm glad I read it. However, I do want to add that while there was a lot of angst throughout, it's the final chapter that KILLED me. There are quite a few fics in this fandom that have made me cry, but this final chapter had me crying like I've never cried before (I don't think I realized just how heavily invested I was in these 2 characters until reading this series). Really, it's just the last half of the chapter (and not even that much), so if you read this series you may want to avoid that. Just sayin'. Read, but proceed with caution!

LOL -- like I said, the first OMC is really regarding a past relationship of Brian's (so he doesn't necessarily stray there, though the OMC may want him to....). The other "relationship" (which I may not even call it that) is too complicated to even describe and I don't want to spoil it for anyone. If you want more specific answers in regards to Justin/OMC and Brian/OMC then PM me and I can give you the low-down. It is a lot to handle, especially how these relationships with OMCs are handled -- quite traumatic for all the characters involved. I still think it's a worthy read though! If not the entire thing, there are definitely chapters I'd recommend that are really light-hearted and happy -- some that are PWP, some that are adorable as they interact with Gus, some that are downright romantic. Again, PM me for those recs if you want to avoid the angst. I think a lot of those chapters could potentially stand on their own and not confuse readers too much. Happy weekend! :)
