Hey!
I'm going to buy the Queer as Folk DVD box with all the seasons but I've seen two kinds of boxes in the Internet: Black box and white box. Can someone tell what's the difference between these?

The white box is the only legitimate USA release. I'm not sure about a black box, but the pink boxes you sometimes see online are bootlegs. A black box would either indicate a bootleg or a foreign release. I'd suggest you simply get the white box - that way you know it's quality and all the disks will work, etc.

I don't know what black box you've seen around, but if it's the one on sell on Amazon, I believe it's official but it's for Europe, so Region 2 coded. The white box is Region 1 (US and Canada).

They don't sell the series in my country so I have to go so far.

That's the same box on sell on Amazon. I'm pretty sure it's the official european release. If you live in Europe, that's the best solution. I live in Italy and I have the white box because at the time I bought it there was no region 2 release yet, but I have to watch it with a multiregion dvd player. If you don't find the box in the store and have to order it online, look at Amazon.co.uk/QAF USA (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Queer-As-Folk-USA-Complete/dp/B002ZLOQ66/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1270572290&sr=8-3), it seems to be less expensive there than on the site you found :)

On Amazon there are also several pictures of the box and its inside, so you can see how the discs are put together and everythin else.

I've bought lots of things from Ebay and Amazon, and have never had a bad experience. Only once did I get a CD that I didnt want, but it wasn't the seller's fault, it had to do with the songs that were listed on the CD and the one I wanted wasn't on it. They offered to give me a credit for the mistake. I get my purchases within days, in the condition stated.

this is funny because I bought the first three seasons on Ebay and the last two seasons pre-release discount on Amazon. I do think that my season 2 is Showcase not Showtime. Not sure.

Oh and there reads "Number of discs: 1". That's a little confusing. I mean it can't mean that they have all the seasons in one DVD :D. That's impossible.

Nah, that is a refuse...one month ago I've bought from Hmv the fifth season, and it said the same, one disc...but when it has delivered there was four discs, duh!!!

From what I know, the white box has english subs (in case you need it;) and it's region 1, only for Us and Canada (amazon.com) and the black one is region 2, for Europe, and if I'm not wrong has subs even in other languages...maybe french and deutch, and you can find it on HMV (the place where I've bought all five seasons, very good):)

I have the white box and it doesn't have any subs. The black box has english and french subs according to Amazon.

Well, from what I see on the amazon site, they have only the white box, I haven't found trace of the black one in there.

And a friend of mine has the white one with english subs...maybe they have realised more versions, I think.

And I haven't found the black one anywhere but on Hmv...mmmm, the Qaf-boxes mistery, Lol!!!

When I bought the full series discs, Amazon was having a sale (whole set for only $100!), so even though I already owned seasons 1-3, it was cheaper to buy the whole set rather than wait for 4 and 5 to become reasonably priced.

I bought each season separately from both Amazon and Ebay. The only one I paid full price for was S5, because it had just been released. I got S1 and S2 for 20 bucks, S3 for 30 and S4 for 40, because it was less than a year old. The difference with the boxed set is that supposedly there are extra extras. I don't care about that, not enough to re-buy the whole series.

Heck every series I bought I've bought one season at a time. And I have lots of series. lol The most expensive so far gas been the Star Trek and Stargate ones (for my husband, he's the sci-fi geek).

I would say that don't worry about the colour of the box as any set you buy in a UK shop such as HMV is a legitimate copy. The box set for sale in HMV, and online with Amazon.co.uk and Play.com are all the same black boxe, although the Amazon and Play.com online purchase is £30 cheaper.

You're from Finland, right? (That's what I gather from your user name, at least. Nice to meet a fellow Finn here. :) )I bought each season in separately, though at the same time, from the German Amazon. (No difficulties in getting it since from a EU country plus the prices are in euros, which I found handy.)It was quite easy and fast as well.

Don't don't DON'T get the pink/black box. It's cheaper, but it's an Asian bootleg with very poor playback quality, bad packaging, no extras, Asian subtitles often enabled and are hard to turn off, etc. Also, each season has a different character on the discs, but Brian doesn't get a season. And Justin with Season 4 hair is on the Season 3 discs. Pet peeve of my QAF set. :(

Ebay. It has grammatical errors like "The Complete 1-5 Season" and has the female symbol on the cover instead of male...just weird stuff that got lost in translation. I think your best bet is actually the white box. I only buy separate seasons if a show is currently in syndication...if there's a box set available, always go for it!

Well, the others say that the white box is for region 1 and I'm on region 2. My DVD player plays only those. Unless the white box is now for region 2 too.

I don't know if you've already purchased them, but here's my say. ;)

I'd say if you actually go into a store and buy it, you're good. Stores aren't going to sell bootlegged copies, they can get heavy fines for it. I'm sure that the version you're looking at is good, since other people have spoken from experience. :) I have the white box set myself, but since I live in the US of A, I need region 1 DVDs. :) Since you need region 2, you should probably get the black box. You can always ask the worker at the store if you need any help. And if their is a problem, I'm sure there's some customer support number you could call. Seriously, though, legit stores don't sell bootlegs. Who ever said 'any publicity is good publicity' is full of shit. Get publicity about selling bootlegged copies of anything, and no one will want to shop at your store again. ;) So go for it! The box set is worth it!! :D

I haven't brought them yet and probably never will. I was going to go London and buy them from a store but the fucking volcano! I have a flight on Sunday to there and now it seems I never get to go to London. Pisses me off so much. I was really looking forward to this trip.
