"Secrets" by Simon: http://www.mags-nificent.com/MSW/SiF/Secrets.htm As a teenager Brian had a one night stand with a friend and she got pregnant. They kept the baby, and Brian's been keeping the secret from everyone else in his life all these years, including Justin.

Is it a happy or sad ending??

[identity profile] elvenfixation.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
...I've only read the first two chapters so far, so I can't really answer that. But it is by Simon, who is both brilliant and cruel, so I'd say watch out.

Is this the one where the daughter is a teenager, and she's awful to Justin?

[identity profile] bendabrenda.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Yes that's the one where the daughter is mean to Justin. She kind of makes Brian's life a little difficult since he never told anyone about being a Dad to someone other than Gus.

That's what I thought. I hated that story!

One that was mentioned recently -- and definitely has a happy ending, BTW -- is by Moonshadow Woman and is called "I Is For Inuksuk.

In this Brian doesn't even know about the kid. The gang knows him, but they don't know that Brian is the father, he moved away when they were very young.

[identity profile] hpgryffin.livejournal.com 2009-09-06 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I went ahead and read it anyway. The kid has an attitude problem and Brian's not helping with his hands-off attitude. Plus, why is Justin portrayed as a more or less lifeless character. He only has fire to complain. Tsk. Tsk. I would definitely not suggest this for Justin fans. Also for those readers like myself who hate it when original characters get more character development and favorable writing. That's my take. Thanks!

I read it, I just hate it. I don't mind reading down the well Justin, but I hate him written as a throwaway or useless.

Then again, I prefer reading IC B/J. And the occasional crack, cause, come on, Amish!Justin? Owns me!!! lol

um it can't be accessed at the moment coz bjfic.net is down but i think seeds of jealousy is a fic where brian has a kid besides gus that the 'gang' doesnt know about.

I'm hangong out to read it again as soon as bjfic.net comes back online

[identity profile] hpgryffin.livejournal.com 2009-09-07 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
We agree on that (about Justin written off as anything less than himself in fics) and I'm so in love with Amish!Justin! I think I've read that five times already and still reading it again and again for lack of nothing else to read or whenever I happen to chance on horrible fics. *LOL*

Please update your fic to note that you found recs. Thanks.

what is amish!justin?

[identity profile] hpgryffin.livejournal.com 2009-09-24 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
It's Gina's story entitled "Devil's Playground" where Justin is an Amish and goes to the Pitts to experience life outside of the community. It's awesome!

I realize this thread happened months ago, but I just have to jump in and say thank you for giving your honest opinion and reasons for it on here. I HATE when I'm suckered in by intriguing requests and end up disappointed. I don't like Simon's stories, most of the time anyway, because he has no qualms about permanently damaging B/J, but I might have read this and been pissed for weeks!! (hello, issues with taking fiction too seriously, perhaps? Pretty sure I'm in good company ;P ) Yeah. So, thanks.
