I'm trying to remember the fic where Deb comes to the loft and tells Justin that Mikey should have Brian because he was there first and longest. When I find out what it is, I will probably be so embarrassed and kick myself.

It could also be in the series Always, Clarity, Catalyst by Azure Opal. Not sure which part it is.
