getithere | B/J crime fighters but separated from gang

Looking for a story where B/J are crime fighting avengers, of a sort, who had to "die" publicly in order to to be together after Brian was injured. Brian is disfigured, paralysis of one side of his face, I believe, which causes them to choose seclusion. One scene I recall is a rescue of kidnapped and abused kids, and one of the perps is staked out behind a building with a wet leather strap tied around his groin. In the end, Emmett discovers they are the mysterious avengers mentioned in a book and finds a way to contact them.

Hoping someone else recalls this as well and can lead me to it. Thanks!
