Re: Brian in love with someone else

Sorry, I'm relatively new to the fandom and do not know all the implications of various terms. The disclaimer wasn't necessary for rec'ing fics just a explanation of my own interest/personal bias in the subject that has impacted my recommendations. Glad you got a laugh out of it.

By being a "Brianite" I meant that my focus of interest was in Gale Harold's portrayl of the character of Brian. The character is by no means perfect, but neither was he a total asshole. I like Justin well enough as a character, but still do not see his personality traits and character's actions as being the best partner for Brian longterm. Justin was also far from perfect and frankly when I watch the show I feel like smacking him many times. In spite of Justin's frequent assertive declarations that he can read Brian and is on to him, he misread him many times. I've also waded through a lot of fanfiction where Justin is portrayed as an instant artistic genious,a sunshiney angel who's relatively blameless in the relationship and who deserves some sort of saint award for loving Brian (yes, I know I'm being sarcastic here). In many stories Justin can do no wrong or his suspect behavior was justified by Brian's perceived bad behavior. That can be a lot of people's cup of tea - it's just not mine. I would prefer to see him get his own storyline apart from Brian and for him to move into the realm of friends. Yes, Brian fell in love with him, but I don't necessarily feel that he was a true love or the ONLY person Brian could ever love for a variety of reasons. Nor do I see Brian, if Justin did leave him for good, pining away in abject misery forever. Once Brian learned how to love the character seemed perfectly capable of dusting himself off and going on with a fully realized life. Would it be easy to love again, probably not, but certainly within the realm of possible.

In regard to the Brian/Micheal pairing, that, for me, is non issue. I have read very few stories and liked even less in that aspect of QaF. I firmly prefer Brian and Micheal as best friends for life. I've also read my fair share of evil Micheal or evil Lindsey fiction and that is a turn off for me as well so there may be fiction fitting the rec's criteria that I haven't read for that reason. Arwensong's Better Friends and Lovers universe does stray a little too anti Lindsey and Micheal for my taste but has more to recommend it than not.

One of the hallmarks, for me, of an interesting show (or story, work of art, etc)is that it allows for personal interpetations and I believe the fandom can support multiple perspectives in peaceful coexistance.
