Kindle question

I import everything into Calibre and then export files onto my Kindle from Calibre, too, so I don't know how you get mobi fics you download onto your hard drive from the DL folder or AO3 or wherever, over to your Kindle. Can someone tell me, please? Thanks!

If you're interested in simply converting from one format to another and then just adding that file to your e-reader, this converter might do the trick for you.

If you want software that converts and manages your e-book/e-fic collection regardless of type of reader, Calibre might be a program that would be useful.

Thanks! Easy enough. I see the autoplay window come up, but I just ignore it since I'm going through calibre.

Yes, that's what I do. I love calibre!

I got an email from a member who wanted to know how to download and add fics to her kindle and I was giving her the steps when I realized I wasn't sure about how to put the files on a Kindle since I do everything via calibre and she's not using that software.

Oh okay that makes sense. :) I figured the Kindle worked the same as the nook and you've already been answered how to do it...

As far as Calibre, I can't love that program enough right now. (I still need to figure out what tags I want to make to organize it even more.) I even started reformatting all of my files into .epub files because they work so much better than .pdf files. <3

I have nothing on my kindle that I haven't converted to mobi. I try to avoid pdfs as much as possible.

I've set up tags and figured out how to work a calibre plug-in that will then read the calibre tags and create "Collections" on the kindle. I believe I read that the Nook will read your tags without all that other business, which seems more efficient.

It's too bad the Nook and Kindle people couldn't have gotten together and made one super bangin' device. Each has features I really like and a couple I'm not so crazy about.

I agree, there's things now that the Kindle has/does that make me wish I had one, but I still remember what brought me to the nook in the first place. (Though I wish they would stop working on creating games to play on it...really I have a DS for gaming purposes or others have iphones, ipods, and countless other devices now for gaming. I bought an e-reader for just that: reading.)

I did break down and get the Kindle app for my computer and ipod because there were a few things I wanted that were not available to the nook. (Though I hate reading on the ipod....it was worse than when I read my e-books on my NDS...)

I'm still getting used to the Calibre program, so any shortcuts or tricks you've picked up, please share!! As more things are going digital, we can't have enough info, imo. And I don't know about others, but I have a ton of fanfic on mine. and I'm sure people are going to want to know how to convert them for eReaders.

Calibre just happened to be the first conversion program I found when I was googling around and though it's a little complicated - okay, a lot complicated, but I don't use all the different levels and features so I'm able to keep it fairly simple.

If people don't want software that manages their e-library, there are a lot of other programs that will do format conversions and that's it. Once the conversion's complete, you just save the new file in whatever folder you've designated. Some programs have been mentioned in earlier posts and they're in the tags under e-readers.
